NEED TO KNOW
- Brandy and Monica ended their concert at Chicago’s United Center early without giving fans explanation
- “Give me one second y’all,” Brandy said while walking offstage mid-performance
- The duo is in the midst of their The Boy Is Mine Tour, which kicked off on Oct. 16
Brandy and Monica fans seem to be confused after the duo ended their concert early with no explanation.
As seen in videos shared to social media, Brandy, 46, left the stage mid-performance due to what seemed to be sound issues during the Chicago stop of the pair’s The Boy Is Mine Tour on Saturday, Oct. 18.
“Give me one second y’all I gotta get my…,” the Grammy winner said while making her way offstage at the United Center. But when she never returned, Monica, 44, performed the final songs by herself and the crowd was sent home without hearing their hit duet, “The Boy Is Mine.”

Brandy and Monica announced their joint tour earlier this year, marking over two decades since the R&B stars topped the charts with their iconic 1998 collaboration.
“I see it as so much bigger than just a hit record,” Brandy told Essence earlier this month. “At the time, it was two young women coming together, bringing our voices and our stories into one moment — and the world connected with it in a way we couldn’t have imagined. To see how that song connected with people all over the world — and still does — is such a blessing.”
Although the two famously had a fight backstage while rehearsing for a performance at the 1998 MTV Video Music Awards that resulted in a yearslong feud, the two proved that they have since made amends.
“This really is a full-circle moment,” Brandy said in a statement to the press in June, when the tour was first announced. “Monica and I coming together again isn’t just about the music — it’s about honoring where we came from and how far we’ve both come.
“‘The Boy Is Mine’ was a defining chapter in R&B, and to share the stage all these years later is bigger than a reunion; it’s a celebration of growth, sisterhood, and the love our fans have given us from day one,” she continued.
Monica added at the time, “The love that ‘The Boy Is Mine’ continues to receive means everything to me. This tour is a celebration of our history, our impact, and the fans who have grown with us.”
“Brandy and I have been on our own unique journeys, and coming back together in this way is a reminder of the power of respect, strength, and real music. We’re giving the people what they’ve been asking for, and doing it with grace, love, and purpose. God’s timing perfectly aligned us,” Monica said.
