Bret Michaels cancels 2026 shows after kidney stone surgery
Bret Michaels “still needs additional rest and recovery” following an emergency kidney stone surgery, his team has announced.
“Following Bret Michaels’ comeback show at The Bowl at Sugar Hill, doctors and paramedics determined immediately after the show that he still needs additional rest and recovery from his recent surgeries,” Michaels Entertainment Group wrote in a Facebook statement on Saturday, noting that the musician “will be taking the next several months off to heal and get back to 100%.”
The company also quoted physicians for the rocker, who stated, “We will be pulling Bret off the road for the time being.”
“He wanted to attempt this show, but we feel there is a much-needed period of rest and slow recovery ahead, especially considering the heat and humidity during the summer months and the effect it can have on his blood sugar levels,” the doctors added.
The company also offered their “deepest apologies” to fans, “as we were truly looking forward to the rest of this year’s shows.”
The statement concluded, “We now look ahead and to Bret being able to return healthy, strong and ready to rock.”
Michaels told fans in the comments thread that there are “not enough words to tell you how much your incredible messages mean to me.”
“In my nonstop spirit to go out & do what I love – which is to play music and to see all of you, all my family, friends and fans & meet everybody…it’s what I truly love – I may have just chosen to go sooner than I should have,” he confessed, noting that he “will come back better than ever.”
Michaels concluded, “And I say this with much love and respect to everybody!”
The statement comes just a day after the Poison frontman, 63, performed in Sugar Hill, Georgia, on Friday following multiple postponements stemming from a July incident that landed him in the hospital.
On July 22, the “Rock of Love” alum revealed he’d undergone surgery after experiencing “intense” kidney stone pain.
The rocker divulged that the “pain became too much” after the stone “would not pass” after seven days, leading to an emergency procedure.
“The pain became intense but, as usual,” he said, noting that he “played through” a few shows before being hospitalized “immediately” on July 19.
“The operation has been done and is complete & I’m out of post-op recovery, and I’m doing everything within my power to feel better and continue playing great shows for great fans when I’ve got a complete clean bill of health,” he wrote alongside a photo of him reclining in a hospital bed.
Michaels subsequently shared that he’s “wise enough to know how important family, friends, fans, doctors and nurses play such a vital role in our everyday health.”
The cancellations come amid a bumpy performance year for the rock star.
Prior to his medical emergency, in May, Michaels canceled a scheduled performance at President Trump-affiliated Freedom 250 Presents: The Great American State Fair concert series in July, saying that the event proved “much more divisive” than he’d signed up for.
“Concerns have also been raised regarding the safety of my fans, band, crew, family and myself, including threats that are completely unfounded and unforgivable,” he stated at the time.
Additionally, Page Six revealed in January that a 40th anniversary Poison tour was scrapped due to Michaels’ alleged request to rake in $6 for every dollar his bandmates would receive for the shows.
