Bristol Palin gives disappointing update on facial paralysis
Bristol Palin revealed she still has a “crooked face” one year after developing a neurological disorder that caused facial paralysis.
Palin, 35, took to her Instagram Stories on Thursday to do a Thanksgiving “fit check” with her 7-year-old daughter, Atlee, in which she gave the disappointing update.
“Black skinnies, black long sleeve, same denim shirt I wear all the time, vintage Louis Vuitton,” she listed off before concluding with, “and still a crooked face.”
The daughter of Sarah Palin first shared her condition back in January and said it was “brought on by stress.”
“I woke up nine days ago with a little weird sensation in my face,” the “Teen Mom OG” alum said via Instagram Stories at the time. “My mouth was pulling this way, and it just felt a little off.”
“Within a couple of hours, the entire left side of my face was numb and just paralyzed,” she continued. “I couldn’t really blink my eye, definitely had no movement on the side of my face. So crazy.”
The former reality TV star subsequently underwent a CT scan, had tests done and was prescribed “steroids and other medications.”
She explained, “Nothing came back, they think it’s just a case of Bell’s palsy maybe brought on by stress or lack of sleep… I think it was brought on by stress.”
Bristol said that although her face was looking “crazy,” she had already seen “such an improvement from what [she] was looking like” initially and started to “get some of the sensation back.”
The mother of three noted that the process is “a little painful,” but that discomfort is “a sign or indication it’s starting to get better.”
Since then, Bristol has continued to share her facial paralysis journey with her followers, despite not making the full recovery she hoped for.
Bristol — who has been transparent about getting multiple cosmetic procedures — has been able to look at the condition from a more positive lens though, sharing that she will never again “pick [her]self apart” over her appearance.
“[When I feel insecure], I am gonna remember this and just be so thankful for a normal functioning face because this has been wild,” she said.
