Britney Spears’ ex Sam Asghari says singer is ‘oppressed’ like Iranian women after arrest
Don’t hold it against her.
Sam Asghari shared his support for ex-wife Britney Spears after her DUI arrest, saying “everybody makes mistakes,” and likened the “oppressed” singer to Iranian women.
“Coming from the country of Iran and seeing women being oppressed, that’s something that stuck out to me and was a value I carried my whole entire life,” the actor, 32, said on “Piers Morgan Uncensored” Wednesday.
“In a way, not comparing the situation whatsoever, she was also oppressed by many people that took advantage of her and sort of had the same experiences women do in Iran,” he continued.
Asghari noted that “it was hard [for him] to believe” that “someone in America” who was “an advocate for women’s rights and wants freedom of speech and freedom for everybody” was “being oppressed.”
The model went on to share how much he “admire[s]” his former spouse.
“I’ve seen what she struggles with,” he told viewers. “Even though we were married for one year, we were together for seven years, so my values for her, my respect for her always stands.”
Asghari, who is a “strong believer” in giving the performer privacy to allow for a “great recovery,” said, “If she made a mistake, I really think she’s a strong woman and can come back from this.”
When Piers Morgan asked whether the exes still speak, Asghari dodged the question.
“I always celebrate the past,” the personal trainer said. “It’s something I like to celebrate and when things get done with, I always will appreciate it for the rest of my life. I wish her nothing but the best.”
The former couple started dating in 2016, got engaged in 2021 and walked down the aisle the following year.
By the summer of 2023, the duo had gone their separate ways, with their divorce finalized in May 2024.
Spears made headlines earlier this month for getting arrested after being pulled over by the California Highway Patrol for allegedly driving under the influence.
She was released from Ventura County Jail hours later and has a court date scheduled in May.
Page Six hears the Princess of Pop is “devastated” and ready to “face the consequences,” which she is “praying [will be] rehab and not jail.”
Asghari first addressed Spears’ arrest on Fox News last week, saying “people make mistakes.”
