Britney Spears reportedly made telling changes to staff weeks before DUI arrest
Britney Spears reportedly fired her sobriety coaches and security guards in the weeks leading up to her DUI arrest Wednesday night.
TMZ reported Friday that the Princess of Pop made the telling change to her staff after coming home from a Mexico trip — and after selling the rights to her music catalog in February for nine figures.
Spears’ rep did not immediately respond to Page Six’s request for comment.
The singer, 44, was believed to be under the influence of a cocktail of drugs and alcohol when she was taken into custody, the California Highway Patrol shared with Page Six on Thursday.
Additionally, an insider close to the “Crossroads” star claimed cops found an unknown substance inside Spears’ car when she was detained.
The songwriter underwent field sobriety tests before being taken to a hospital to have her blood alcohol content determined.
Spears has been telling people (per TMZ) her BAC was .06 percent — and while this is lower than the .08 percent limit in California, individuals can still be charged if driving erratically.
The Grammy winner had been swerving “in and out” of lanes before she was pulled over, according to 911 dispatch.
Spears, who was “incredibly emotional” during her arrest, was released from Ventura County Jail on Thursday morning.
She has a court date scheduled for May 4.
In a searingly honest statement to Page Six, Spears’ manager, Cade Hudson, dubbed the pop star’s actions “completely inexcusable.”
He continued, “Britney is going to take the right steps and comply with the law and hopefully this can be the first step in long overdue change that needs to occur in Britney’s life. Hopefully, she can get the help and support she needs during this difficult time.”
Spears allegedly told officials that, prior to her arrest, she had consumed one single mimosa while “alone … at her house.”
A source explained to us Thursday that the “Gimme More” crooner has exhibited “increasingly erratic [behavior] in recent months,” with ex-husband Kevin Federline’s “You Thought You Knew” memoir sending her into a “downhill” spiral.
The insider claimed, “It was the Kevin book that really sent her over the edge. … It really impacted her emotionally.”
The former couple, notably, were married from 2004 to 2007 and welcomed two sons — Sean Preston, 20, and Jayden James, 19 — during their time together.
