Can We All Agree It’s Crazy Luke Holloway’s ‘I Have One Daughter’ Is the Accidental Summer Song of 2025? He’s Still Shocked (Exclusive)

NEED TO KNOW
- With summer coming to a close, the viral TikTok sound, “I Have One Daughter” has quietly, effortlessly, become the song of the summer
- “It is crazy because everything can explode so, so quickly and unexpectedly, I didn’t expect it at all,” the creator of the song, Luke Holloway tells PEOPLE
- Following the overwhelming response to the viral moment, Holloway turned the snippet into a full-length track
Summer is winding down, and one question remains: What song defined the season?
Sure, Sabrina Carpenter’s “Manchild” is undeniably catchy, and Chappell Roan’s “The Subway” has been on repeat for many. But the track I’ve heard the most, and the one I’ve seen people engage with again and again, didn’t even start as a streamable song.
Let me make my case: the TikTok sound known simply as “I Have One Daughter” has quietly, effortlessly, become the song of the summer.
In part 25 of his series “Turning Terrible Tinder Conversations into Songs,” Luke Hollowaytransformed a bizarre text exchange — where a man failed to grasp that having one daughter doesn’t mean having multiple “baby daddies” — into a hilarious, melodic moment. That snippet has since taken on a life of its own, with users across TikTok applying the sound to all sorts of situations where the questions they’re being asked just don’t make sense.
It’s safe to say no one expected the video, which now has nearly 3 million likes across social media, to spark what could genuinely be considered the song of the summer. That includes Holloway himself. “It is crazy because everything can explode so, so quickly and unexpectedly, I didn’t expect it at all,” Holloway, 40, tells PEOPLE.
He adds, “People can sort of interpolate or reinterpret your song in a way you didn’t expect. And it’s always great to see how people I’ve taken like this song and applied it to their own experiences. I’ve had some videos that have done well, but never the sound itself go viral.”
When you think about it, when isn’t TikTok dictating what songs are stuck in our heads? It was just last year that “Messy” by Lola Young went viral on the platform, thanks in large part to Sofia Richie Grainge dancing to it, and it became Young’s first charting single. Even celebrities like Drake have embraced the formula, crafting viral-ready dance trends with tracks like “Toosie Slide” or participating in others’ trends to boost their music’s reach. Maybe it’s the communal aspect, the fact that anyone can join in and make the song their own, that makes it all so effective.
Following the overwhelming response to the viral moment, Holloway did what any savvy creator would: He turned the snippet into a full-length track and released “I Have One Daughter” across streaming platforms, as he should.
Maybe we’ve been thinking about it all wrong. Of course this summer’s anthem came from TikTok. Where else would it come from?
