Candace Cameron Bure Explains Why Dating Apps Have Led to the ‘Loss of Human Connection’ (Exclusive)
Candace Cameron Bure has been married for nearly 30 years, but that doesn’t mean she doesn’t have opinions on the current dating culture.
“What I believe is lost today is human connection,” Cameron Bure, 49, said in Us Weekly’s exclusive clip from “The Candace Cameron Bure” podcast. “Because of our phones, because of social media, because of dating apps.”
Cameron Bure continued, “I’m not saying that those aren’t good tools. I know lots of people who have met on dating apps, or you on a dating show.”
Cameron Bure was referring to her season 13 podcast cohost Madi Prewett Trout, who appeared on The Bachelor in 2020. (Madi met husband Grant Troutt in 2021.)
“But it’s really, like you said, a person’s not going to drop on your front door like an Amazon package,” Cameron Bure continued. “So you do have to put yourself out there and not hide behind your phone or the screen. Or be afraid to have a real conversation with someone to talk to them on the phone and not just text them.”
Cameron Bure said women looking for a significant other should “be in the places to find the type of people that you want to date.” Meaning, someone “looking for a Godly man” might not find him at a bar.
“You might find him there,” Candace joked. “But [it] might not be the best place.”
Candace has been married to husband Valeri Bure since 1996. They were introduced by Candace’s former Full House costar Dave Coulier.
“We went on a date the very next day, and in less than a year we were engaged,” she said during a 2014 interview. Candace and Valeri, 51, are the parents to kids Natasha, 27, Lev, 25, and Maksim, 23.
Candace and Valeri have been honest about the ups and downs in their relationship over the years, but the actress gushed to Us Weekly last month about her “wonderful” marriage.
“I love my husband so much. We are enjoying each other so incredibly much,” she said in a cover story interview at the time. “Because anyone knows that when you’ve had kids and you go through that walk or that journey together, which can be great, but then it’s basically the two of you again, once your kids are all adults.”
Candace continued, “It’s like we started dating again, and it’s been so beautiful. And I’m just in such a happy, happy place, as is Val, and I’m just looking forward to the next 30 years, and hopefully more than that.”
The actress explained the biggest differences in her relationship with Valeri now that they’re empty nesters.
“We’re going to the movies a lot more. Val actually surprised me and we flew to Las Vegas for the day to see The Wizard of Oz — my all-time favorite movie — at The Sphere,” she said. “I literally cried because I was so overwhelmed and grateful. I’m in such a happy, happy place.”
New episodes of “The Candace Cameron Bure” podcast drop on Tuesdays.
