Cardi B, Zoe Saldaña and more speak out on Dominican Republic roof collapse that killed 124, trapped dozens

Many Dominican and Dominican-American celebrities are heartbroken over the tragic nightclub roof collapse that recently took place in the Caribbean country and claimed the lives of at least 124 people.
Cardi B, who was born in New York City but whose father is Dominican, posted via her Instagram Story Tuesday a black ribbon, which symbolizes mourning, over a map cutout of the Dominican Republic.
Zoe Saldaña, who was born in New Jersey but has Dominican heritage from both her parents, reposted via Instagram Tuesday a message commemorating the lives lost in the horrific accident.
“Today, our hearts break over the tragic roof collapse a Jetset nightclub in the Dominican Republic,” the statement, originally posted by the film production company Cinestar Pictures, reads.
It continues, “Sending love and strength to the victims, their families, and all those affected. In times of loss, may we come together in solidarity and compassion.”
Saldaña, 46, has proudly represented her ethnicity while on the recent awards show circuit.
While accepting her Oscar for best supporting actress for her role in “Emilia Pérez” in March, she said, “I am a proud child of immigrant parents with dreams and dignity and hardworking hands.
“I am the first American of Dominican origin to accept an Academy Award, and I know I won’t be the last.”
Aside from Saldaña, “Orange is the New Black” alum Dascha Polanco also expressed her grief online.
The 42-year-old actress, who is Dominican-American, posted a tribute to Merengue singer Rubby Pérez –who was performing onstage when the Jet Set club roof collapse and tragically died — and World Series baseball champ Octavio Dotel, who was also killed inside of the venue.
She concluded with a call to action for how people could help support victims and their families.
The roof of the Jet Set nightclub, located in Santo Domingo, Dominican Republic, came crumbling down Tuesday at around 12:45 a.m. local time.
Authorities previously reported that, aside from the fatalities, more than hundreds were injured.
