Chappell Roan goes practically makeup free for new MAC campaign
Chappell Roan is the new face of MAC Cosmetics, but it isn’t the face you might expect.
Roan, known best in the beauty world or her colorful and dramatic stage makeup, is stripping it all away for the brand’s latest ad.
The campaign, also starring Quanlin Blackwell and Gabbriette, teases MAC’s official Sephora launch on March 2.
According to a press release, the images are meant to “celebrate the versatility of MAC,” adding, “each talent fearlessly transforms from a soft, barely-there everyday beauty to unapologetic, bold glam.”
In one image, Roan appears practically makeup free, sporting little more than subtle blush and flushed lipstick.
In a video, the 28-year-old applies a soft pink lipstick that matches her flush.
Then, the “Pink Pony Club” singer transforms into a dramatic look more akin to what fans have come to expect from the star.
On her lips were two different bold red hues using their classic lip pencil ($25) and matte lipstick ($25), while her lashes and lids covered in a classic smokey eye with Sephora-exclusive liquid eyeshadow ($24) and volumizing mascara ($29), per the press release.
“MAC is culture,” says Roan, looking straight into the camera. “MAC is for everyone,” continues Blackwell, with Gabriette finishing, “MAC is timeless.”
Blackwell adds that the company is “sensation,” “iconic” and — finally — “everything.”
Makeup artist Andrew Dahling explained of the look in a press release, “It’s an homage to an era of glamour that has lived on forever, and created a phenomena of cult classic shades that we still go back to decades later,” adding, “We wanted to create a look that honored MAC’s legacy as a brand, by and for everyone.”
Roan was announced as the new brand ambassador back in December, though the campaign at the time took a decidedly different approach.
Appearing with a fully painted white face and dramatic black lashes, Roan’s theatrical, whimsical beauty was on full display.
Though her face was in full glam mode at the 2026 Grammys, Roan and her beauty team had a different take on the stripped-down look for the event, wearing prosthetic pasties that held up her barely-there dress with piercings.
