Christina Fulton Tells Nicolas Cage to ‘Take Care’ of Their Son Amid Assault Case

Nicolas Cage’s ex, Christina Fulton, is asking for his help amid their son Weston’s mental health crisis.
When stopped by TMZ on Wednesday, April 2, Fulton, 57, relayed a message for the actor.
“Take care of my son. Our son,” she said.
Fulton spoke with the outlet after leaving court in downtown Los Angeles, where Weston, 34, was ordered to complete a mental health diversion program, which allows an individual charged with a crime to receive treatment and support services rather than go through the traditional criminal justice system.
Us Weekly confirmed in July 2024 that Weston was arrested for felony assault following an alleged incident the previous April. He was subsequently released on bond and pleaded not guilty to assault. At the time, Fulton was reported to have suffered injuries in the incident when she tried to get Weston help amid “a mental health crisis.”
Earlier this year, Fulton filed a lawsuit against Cage, 62, alleging that he had ignored Weston’s mental health concerns and enabled his reportedly troubling behavior, per court documents obtained by Us on February 20.
In March, the suit was dismissed in its entirety, with prejudice — meaning it cannot be refiled.
“Well, we had a really good judge and he did put Weston on a mental health diversion, and I’m happy that he’s gonna go get some help,” Fulton told TMZ on Wednesday. “I read my statement to the judge. My son got to hear it for the first time.”
Fulton said that she’s “heartbroken” and loves Weston. However, he has not apologized to her and has shown no “remorse” or “accountability,” she added.
She alleged that when Los Angeles police arrived on the scene to arrest Weston in April 2024, they “left me on the ground bleeding out of my eye. … I needed an ambulance. I needed medical attention.”
Fulton is now dedicated to issues including “mental health in Los Angeles” and “police reform.” She said she wants to work with police on “how to help a victim” at a scene of domestic violence.
“I’m not gonna stop what I’m doing,” she vowed after her court appearance. “I’m gonna be out there fighting.”
In her February court filing, Fulton alleged that Cage had not intervened to try to assist their son.
“Weston has a long history of mental and psychological disorder and a history of committing violent assault and battery and harming numerous individuals,” Fulton’s court filing read. “Nicolas has been aware of Weston’s history and nevertheless failed to take action to prevent Weston from committing acts of violence and harming others.”
According to Fulton, Cage had also allegedly bailed Weston out of jail on occasion and paid for the rent on Weston’s Los Angeles condo. Fulton accused Cage of aiding their son’s “reckless” lifestyle and neglecting to ensure that he had “necessary psychiatric” help.
“Nicolas knew or should have known that Weston posed a serious and imminent danger to others, including Plaintiff, based on his documented history of violent assaults, substance abuse, and mental instability,” Fulton’s lawsuit claimed.
Cage has denied the allegations.
“The allegations by Christina Fulton against Nicolas Cage are absurd and frivolous,” he said in a February statement to Us. “Weston Coppola is a 34-year-old man. Mr. Cage does not control Weston’s behavior in any manner and is not responsible for Weston’s alleged assault of his mother.”
Fulton previously explained that the incident with Weston arose from a verbal fight that turned physical.
“On April 28, 2024, around 5:30 p.m. I received urgent messages from friends of my son, Weston Cage, regarding his deteriorating mental state, urging me to come help,” Fulton exclusively told Us in July 2024. “When I arrived to offer support and console him, he was already in the midst of a manic rage.”
Fulton told Us at the time that she “was brutally assaulted and sustained serious injuries. Despite my desperate pleas to the responding police officers to detain him for a mental health evaluation, the police officers refused my request and neglected my urgent need for my medical attention.”
Cage has not publicly commented on Weston’s legal troubles. The actor welcomed Weston with Fulton in December 1990, but the duo split soon after his arrival. Cage has since welcomed son Kal-El with his third wife, Alice Kim, whom he divorced in 2016. He married Riko Shibata in February 2021. The couple share a daughter, August, who was born in 2022.
