Coco Austin defends breastfeeding daughter Chanel until age 6
Coco Austin stands by breastfeeding her daughter until age 6.
Ice-T’s wife defended the “bonding experience” with Chanel, now 9, on Sunday’s episode of Bunnie XO’s “Dumb Blonde” podcast.
“It wasn’t like I was feeding her because she needed a meal,” the 46-year-old explained to listeners over the weekend. “She was able to eat by a year, full solids. … It was more that she wanted to be around me.”
She recalled, “It was mostly when she went to sleep, [and] she wanted me to be there. So it was more of a comfort thing.”
At the time, the model decided, “I’m going to let her stop when she wants to stop.”
She noted, “She’s not going to be 16 on my boob. She’s eventually going to figure out that this is kinda strange or weird and stop.
“And that happened around 6,” Austin continued, confirming that this was “an extremely long time” to nurse.
While she has heard from “so many people who loved it” over the years, the actress did hit back at haters during the podcast episode.
“In Europe, they’re doing it until 7,” she claimed. “There, it’s nothing to them. We Americans think that’s weird. But I don’t think there’s anything wrong with it as long as it’s just in your home, you know?”
As for those “sexualiz[ing]” Austin’s breastfeeding journey, she added, “It’s not a big thing. It’s a boob.”
Chanel is still “obsessed with boobs … to this day,” according to her mom.
“She’s always sitting and lying on me,” Austin explained. “It’s just a really nice moment because it’s not going to be like this when they get into the teenage years. I’m loving every moment I can with Chanel.”
Austin, who gave birth to her baby girl in November 2015, has defended the decision on many occasions — as has Ice-T.
The “Law & Order: SVU” star, 67, told TMZ in 2019 that “every once in a while … she wants to get close to her mom, [and] that’s what they do.”
The actor clarified, “She eats food. She eats f–king cheeseburgers.”
The couple has been married since 2002, and Austin attributed their relationship success to the “very submissive” role she plays at home.
“That’s why it’s lasted, because we know our identities,” she said during her sitdown with Jelly Roll’s wife, telling other women to “stop trying to be such a boss.”
