Danielle Fishel Realized Her Son, 6, Knew a Curse Word When He Brought Up ‘Beating’ Someone’s ‘Ass’
Danielle Fishel still can’t believe what came out of her 6-year-old son Adler’s mouth.
“Adler learned his first curse word — ass,” Fishel, 44, shared on the Monday, November 17, episode of iHeartRadio’s “Pod Meets World” podcast. “He said something about, like, somebody was going to beat someone’s ass. Jensen said, ‘What did you just say?’ And he was like, ‘I’m going to beat that guy’s ass.’”
Without hesitating, Fishel’s husband, Jensen Karp, stepped in with quite the clever response.
“Jensen was like, ‘Oh, that is another word for butt, and we just prefer that you say butt,’” Fishel recalled. “And he was like, ‘OK.’”
The parenting dilemma came after Fishel revealed that her oldest child has been trying to figure out what the F-word is for years. (The Boy Meets World star and Karp also share son Keaton, 4.)
“One day, he said, ‘Mom, I know what the F-word is.’ And I said, ‘You do?’ and he goes, ‘Freakin.’ Yesterday, he asked Jensen, ‘Does the F-word stand for Fox?’” Fishel told podcast cohost and former Boy Meets World costar Rider Strong. “Thankfully, we haven’t crossed that bridge. I just can’t believe he’s six. We’ve done a really good job in our house of not cursing around our kids. We just don’t do it.”
Strong, however, has taken on a different approach when it comes to introducing kids to profanity.
During Monday’s podcast episode, the actor — who shares son Indy, 10, with wife Alexandra Baretto — said he allows his kid to swear at home.
“Just don’t swear in front of other adults or other kids,” he continued. “Once he knew he had that freedom, it was like car rides would just become a swear fest. And then it was, like, wanting to find songs or things where people swore. …. He exhausted himself. But it took a while.”
According to Strong, 45, Baretto recently made the decision to try and cuss less. The resolution is proving to be a costly goal.
“She decided that she swore too much, and she was like, ‘I want to swear less,’” Strong recalled. “So she told Indy that she would pay him a dollar every time. It’s up to $38.”
This isn’t the first time Fishel has proven that kids truly say the darndest things.
After getting eliminated from Dancing With the Stars, Fishel revealed on the “Pod Meets World” podcast that Adler told his teacher that his mom died because she had been away from home due to ABC’s competition show.
“I said, ‘Mommy’s not going to quit her job.’ And he said, ‘Why?’” Fishel recalled. “I said, ‘Well, a couple of reasons. One, Mommy really loves her job. And two, because this job is not forever, and I made a commitment to the job.’”
Fishel assured Adler that the show would be over by Thanksgiving and that things “will go back to normal.”
The actress and her professional dance partner, Pasha Pashkov, were ultimately eliminated during Rock & Roll Hall of Fame Night on November 4.
The duo performed a contemporary routine to Aerosmith’s “Dream On,” which scored 34 points from the judges, ranking them second from the bottom for the night.
