David Beckham Gets Emotional in Birthday Post Dedicated to His Family as He Officially Turns 50

David Beckham has hit the half-century mark!

While the soccer icon kicked off his birthday celebration a month ago, the father of four gave thanks for his “biggest accomplishment” in an Instagram post to mark his big day on Friday, May 2.

“As I reflect on this Birthday I’m very grateful for many things in my life the teams I’ve played for, my teammates, managers, the fans, MY COUNTRY and being England captain, the children I have met over different charities I work with, my team in my business & the friends I have around me I feel truly blessed,” Beckham wrote. “But my biggest accomplishment is and will always be my family.”

He continued, “My mum and dad who sacrificed so much for me to live my dream of becoming a footballer, my sisters who had to put up with following their brother around in the freezing cold watching me play football and my amazing nan and grandad… My wife and best friend of 28 years and my beautiful children Brooklyn, Romeo, Cruz & Harper you are the reason I get out of bed each day.”

Alongside the retired athlete’s heartfelt post, he shared a carousel of images from his life, including adorable shots from his childhood and his own sons’ younger days. Wife Victoria Beckham and daughter Harper Seven also made sweet cameos in the gallery.

Beckham and fam got the party started more than a month ago, with a star-studded celebration at Cipriani Downtown Miami in Florida on March 30.

Among the luminaries in attendance were Tom Brady, Lionel Mess, Shaquille O’Neal and members of Inter Miami CF, the professional soccer team that Beckham co-owns.

“So I thought I’d start celebrating slightly early, such a special night in Miami,” Beckham wrote in an Instagram post the next day, captioning seven photos from the black-tie bash. “So lucky to have amazing friends and family to start the 50th celebrations with.” 

On his birthday Friday, Beckham shared another post on Instagram in which he detailed the specifics of a fundraiser he launched for Unicef tied to his birthday.

“Thank you for making me smile and thank you for making me a better man…. I love you all so much and thank you for making today so special for me,” Beckham wrote. “You are my world 🩷🩷🩷🩷🩷🩷”

He also got a sweet birthday note from Victoria, who shared a video on Instagram set to the Bee Gees’ “Love You Inside Out.”

“When I look at this video, I think, ‘Wow… how lucky am I!!’ 😂 ” Victoria wrote in the post’s caption. “You’re everything I could have dreamed of and more. Happy 50th @davidbeckham!!! I love you and our beautiful family endlessly. You complete me xxx.”
