The 2025 Daytime Emmy Awards are taking a moment to remember those the television community has lost.
The “In Memoriam” segment of the 52nd annual ceremony on Oct. 17 paid tribute to several late stars of daytime TV programming, including Tristan Rogers, Michelle Trachtenberg, Anne Burrell, Esta Terblanche, Leslie Charleston, Drake Hogestyn, Wings Hauser, Phil Donahue, Patricia “Pat” Crowley and Eileen Fulton.
Others honored included Joe Marinelli, Chuck Woolery, Valerie Mahaffey, John Aprea, Helen Gallagher, Mark Dobies, Julian McMahon, James Houghton, Alice Hirson, Doug Sheehan, Peter Marshall, Wink Martindale, Chris Robinson, James Earl Jones, Thom Christopher, Jerry Adler, André Landzaat, Richard Simmons, Francisco San Martin, Ananda Lewis, Denise Alexander, John Capodice, Judge Frank Caprio, Nicholas Pryor, Bruce French, Pamela Peters Solo and Ron Hale.
Rogers died at 79 on Aug. 15. He rose to fame for his time as Robert Scorpio in General Hospital from 1980 until 2025. In July, his cancer diagnosis was revealed.
His longtime manager Meryl Soodak confirmed his death to ABC 7 Eyewitness News at the time and told the outlet playing Robert “meant everything to him.”
“He loved being Scorpio and he created that role from nothing,” Soodak said. “He was supposed to work a day and he ended up making it into something huge. He was just a genuinely loyal, kind human being and he loved his family.”
Trachtenberg died in February in New York City at 39. Her cause of death was ruled natural and was the result of complications of diabetes mellitus.
The actress’ career began at just three years old when she got her start in commercials and ads before becoming a TV star with roles in All My Children, Clarissa Explains it All and The Adventures of Pete & Pete. Her breakout role came when she starred in the Harriet the Spy film adaptation before memorable turns in Buffy the Vampire Slayer and Gossip Girl.
Drake Hogestyn, the beloved Days of Our Lives star who played John Black for 38 years, was just one day shy of his 71st birthday when he died on Sept. 28, 2024. Hogestyn had been diagnosed with pancreatic cancer.
A soap opera legend, Charleson died at age 79 on Sunday, Jan. 12. Her death was announced by General Hospital‘s executive producer Frank Valentini on the show’s Instagram page earlier this year.
Valentini wrote that Charleson — who played Monica Quartermaine for nearly 50 years — “was a beloved matriarch of the entire cast and crew.”
Fulton, who was known to be a legendary soap actress, died on July 14 at age 91 “after a period of declining health,” according to an obituary from Grace Funeral Home.
She was best known for playing the role of Lisa Grimaldi on As the World Turns, appearing on the soap opera from 1960 until the show ended in 2010. Her 50-year tenure made her one of the longest-running actors in soap operas.
Marinelli died of stomach cancer on June 22 in Burbank, California, his wife Jean told The Hollywood Reporter at the time. He was 68. He appeared on shows like General Hospital and Santa Barbara.
Golden Globe-winner Crowley, who appeared on the ABC soap Dynasty and the ’60s sitcom Please Don’t Eat the Daisies, died from natural causes at 91 on Sept. 14 in Los Angeles. Her son, Sony Pictures EVP Jon Hookstratten, confirmed the news to PEOPLE at the time.
Crowley’s film and television credits date back to the early ’50s, with her onscreen “introduction” being in 1953’s Female Forever, which starred Ginger Rogers, William Holden and Paul Douglas. In the years since, she appeared in over 100 roles, with her most recent having in 2012.
