Denver Broncos Linebacker Alex Singleton Underwent Testicular Cancer Surgery Hours After Playing in Game

Denver Broncos linebacker Alex Singleton had testicular cancer surgery the day after playing in his team’s game against the Las Vegas Raiders.

“I shared with my teammates and coaches that I underwent successful surgery on Friday for testicular cancer after being diagnosed last week,” Singleton, 31, shared via Instagram on Monday, November 10. “Thankfully, we believe the cancer was caught early with a great prognosis for me and my family. While we are still awaiting some additional test results, I fully expect to return to the field in the coming weeks.”

Singleton had the surgery on Friday, November 7, one day after recording nine tackles — two of them solo — in the Broncos’ 10-7 win over the Raiders on Thursday, November 6. 

It was revealed Singleton had “elevated levels of the hormone hcG” in his system during a random test as part of the NFL’s drug testing program “a little over two weeks ago.”

“Without a doubt, I knew with how diligent I am with what goes into my body that this was not from anything external I may have taken,” Singleton said. “After speaking with my agent and wife, we decided to book an appointment with a urologist.”

Singleton and his wife, Sam, got married in June and share a daughter, Tallyn, who was born in February. 

The NFL star visited a doctor on November 3 who determined Singleton “had signs of a testicular tumor.”

After playing in the game against the Raiders on Thursday, Singleton “underwent surgery to remove the cancerous tumor and begin the road to a full recovery” the next day. 

“I wrestled with sharing such personal information publicly,” Singleton said. “But the fact is, if it helps one person decide to pay closer attention to their body, then it is well worth it. Early detection and screenings save lives and can save loved ones from a lot of grief.”

Singleton thanked his wife for her support, calling her “the strongest person I know.”

The linebacker also expressed gratitude to members of his “Broncos family,” including Denver head coach Sean Payton and defensive coordinator Vance Joseph, who Singleton said “have been absolutely great and absolutely supportive.”

He also thanked a larger assemblage of Broncos team employees for springing into action after he informed them of his news

“Literally, within minutes of getting a call from my agent, this group arranged for me to get an ultrasound and other tests done to confirm the original diagnosis,” he shared. 

“More than anything, I really just want to thank everyone for their support and emphasize the importance of early detection and regular screenings,” Singleton’s post concluded. “Can’t wait to get back on the field.”

Singleton’s wife, Sam, took to social media with her own message after the Broncos star announced his news.

“My super strong and amazing husband 💙,” she wrote via her Instagram Story on Monday. “I love you endlessly.”

The Broncos are currently 8-2 and sit atop the AFC West standings. Up next, Denver welcomes the Kansas City Chiefs to town on Sunday, November 16.
