Despite ‘blindsided’ claims, Wendy Williams ‘absolutely knew’ about ex pal’s documentary

Nothing ever seems to be peaceful in the world of Wendy Williams.

Amid her battle with her court-appointed guardian, and after her ugly divorce battle, the talk show legend is now locked in a fight with her former friend and executive producer over a documentary that was supposed to celebrate her career.

Williams’ lawyer says that she was blindsided by news of Peacock docuseries “Clap If You Care” — but insiders say she’s known about the project since the beginning.

Power attorney Joe Tacopina told Page Six Williams had “no heads up about anything” before the NBC streamer announced the 3-parter produced by “Wendy Williams Show” EP Suzanne Bass.

“Suzanne never said that she was executive producing a documentary about ‘The Wendy Williams Show.’ There was never a discussion she had with Wendy,” Tacopina said.

Williams’ former protege, Charlamagne tha God and his “Breakfast Club” co-host, Loren LoRosa, first reported that Williams was taken off guard by the announcement. Charlamagne said he refused to participate in the documentary because Williams wasn’t part of it. He further claimed those closest to Wendy, like her news anchor niece Alex Finnie, did not know about the project either.

The doc is billed as a series that will celebrate Williams’ “outrageous fun, cultural impact, and meteoric rise.”

But sources told us it’s Bass who’s been blindsided by Williams’ response.

A source close to Bass told Page Six, Williams “absolutely” knew the doc was in the works and insists that “Suzanne told her she was doing it twice!”

“She’s had so many dinners with Wendy, and they’ve talked about doing talking panels together, podcasts, documentaries… It was a whole thing. Wendy being blindsided is bullsh-t,” they said.

Tacopina explained Bass “asked Wendy almost a year ago about if Wendy would be interested in doing any press surrounding her life and situation. Wendy said, ‘No!’” he said, adding, “Wendy has not talked to Suzanne now in months.” (Our source claims she and Bass last spoke in June).

“She absolutely was blindsided, and only found out about this project when people started reaching out to her saying, ‘Peacock is doing a documentary about her career/life and Suzanne is the EP,” he continued.

“Two weeks later, the project was announced online. She had no heads up about anything,” Tacopina maintained.

Netflix is reportedly working on another documentary about Williams. She reportedly was unaware of that project as well. “Clap If You Care” is slated for a 2027 release. Former “Wendy” regular, Chris Witherspoon, is also listed as an EP, along with Bass.

Bass could not be reached for comment and a rep for Peacock did not get back to us.
