Devon Walker explains ‘SNL’ exit after calling the show ‘toxic’

Devon Walker got candid about why he’s moving on from his role at “Saturday Night Live” after slamming the comedy series as “toxic.”
“To be frank, I guess the best way I put it is like me and the show kind of looked at each other and we decided together that it was time to go our separate ways,” the comedian told Rolling Stone in an interview published Saturday.
“I think I felt ready to leave the show, and I think the show felt ready to leave me,” he added, explaining that being on the show since 2022 has been a “life commitment.”
“I was just ready to do something else,” Walker, 34, continued. “We both felt like it was time.”
The TV personality shared that there was “a lot of life stuff” he had to miss out on to film “SNL,” saying, “I felt ready to do a different version of my life.
“I think that me and the show are both ready to turn the page.”
Last week, Walker announced he was departing from “SNL” with a typed statement shared on Instagram.
“To me, jobs in this industry feel like a bunch of little marriages,” he wrote.
“Some of em last for a long time if we’re lucky, but most of them are fleeting. Permanent until they’re not.”
“Me and the show did three years together, and sometimes it was really cool,” he added.
“Sometimes it was toxic as hell. But we … made the most of what it was, even amidst all of the dysfunction. We made a f–ked up lil family.”
Walker shared the message alongside other photos, which he captioned, “me and baby broke up.”
The actor is among several “SNL” cast members leaving ahead of Season 51, which premieres in October.
Other notable comedians not returning are Heidi Gardner, Michael Longfellow and Emil Wakim.
The shakeup comes after “SNL” head honcho Lorne Michaels hinted there would be major changes to the cast in the forthcoming season while chatting with Puck News earlier this month.
