Dolly Parton honored by royal family in moving Buckingham Palace tribute

Buckingham Palace gave a royally touching tribute to Dolly Parton Wednesday morning.

During the Changing of the Guard ceremony the day after Parton’s death, the military band played the late country singer’s hit song “9 to 5.”

King Charles and Queen Camilla shared footage of the moving moment via social media.

“Remembering the late, great Dolly, who brought joy, comfort and inspiration to so many — including the millions of children given free books through her Imagination Library,” the caption read.

“We will always ❤️ you,” the royals concluded, referencing another of Parton’s iconic releases.

Social media users praised the “wonderfully done” and “perfect” tribute in the comments, with many writing it “brought [them] to tears.”

Parton’s nephew announced the singer’s death at 80 in an emotional video Tuesday, with her reps later confirming to Page Six that she “bravely fac[ed] a brief battle with cancer.”

The statement read, “Dolly departed her Earthly life today at the Vanderbilt-Ingram Cancer Center surrounded by loved ones.

“Our beloved Dolly Parton spent her life and career bringing joy, laughter, hope and integrity into everything she touched,” it continued. “Her unmatched generosity reached the lives of countless people whom she would never meet, yet she was always there to offer a helping hand.”

Parton first hinted at her “health challenges” last year but did not provide further details to fans as she made headlines for canceling multiple appearances.

In the Grammy winner’s final interview days before her death, Parton told People, “I am dealing with some health issues that I just didn’t pay attention to when I was watching over [my late husband], Carl [Thomas Dean].”

Dean, notably, died in March 2025 at 82 years old of an undisclosed prolonged illness.

He and Parton had been married for nearly 59 years at the time of his passing.

The “Hannah Montana” alum spoke about her grief to Entertainment Tonight in May 2025, saying she’d “miss him … for the rest of [her] life.”

She added, “I’m having to really go through a lot trying to figure out how to be without him because I was with him for so long.”
