Dolly Parton struggled in the year after the death of her beloved husband, Carl Dean, and noticeably retreated from public life, according to a family friend.
“She wasn’t doing well,” Nikki Lund, who knew the country music icon through Parton’s longtime manager, Donny Nozell, exclusively told Page Six. “I think it’s like a broken heart, you know?”
Lund, who last saw Parton about a month ago, said the singer had endured “a lot of loss in a short amount of time” following the March 2025 death of Dean and the more recent loss of her brother.
