Dwayne Johnson is paying tribute to the late Robin Williams in the next Jumanji movie.
Johnson, 53, shared a video to Instagram on Wednesday, Nov. 19 from the Los Angeles set of the fifth film in the Jumanjii series. While sharing that filming has officially begun on the sequel, Johnson revealed will be wearing one of the props from Williams’ original 1995 film to honor the actor.
“Little day one of Jumanji excitement. That was cool,” Johnson said, as he drove a golf cart on the Universal Studios lot past a group of people taking a tour of the studio lot. After the actor said he was happy to be filming a movie in L.A. for the first time since “I don’t know when,” he motioned to the dice necklace he was wearing.
“As you see, a little easter egg for Dr. Bravestone. This is the dice from the original Jumanji with Robin Williams, as a show of respect,” Johnson added, as he greeted another group at Universal Studios and stepped out of the golf cart. “And a way of honoring Robin and this entire franchise that he started as we film our very last Jumanji. Big finale. Here we go, let’s shoot!”
Williams, who died at 63 in 2014, famously costarred with Kirsten Dunst, Bradley Pierce, David Alan Grier and Bonnie Hunt in the original 1995 Jumanji movie. Williams played a man named Alan, who is stuck inside the magical titular board game for 26 years until two children discover the game and accidentally summon Alan back into the real world.
A number of Instagram users who commented on Johnson’s post applauded his nod to Williams. “🔥🔥Such a dope tribute. I love the Jumanji movies 🙌🏾,” one user wrote. “@therock this gave me chills,” another user added. “Jumanji lives on because of the heart you pour into it.”

Johnson joined the Jumanji series for its 2017 reboot Jumanji: Welcome to the Jungle. He costars with Kevin Hart, Jack Black and Karen Gillan in the more recent movies, which sees a group of teenagers morph into adult characters within Jumanji, now a video game, after they are sucked into its world. Welcome to the Jungle spawned a sequel titled Jumanji: The Next Level in 2019.
Hart, 46, Gillan 37, and Black, 56, are each returning to costar alongside Johnson in what the actor described as the final Jumanji movie, per photos the film’s official Instagram has posted in recent days. The movie announced it was officially in production with a photo of the stars at a table read together on Nov. 12.
The next Jumanji movie is scheduled to hit theaters Dec. 11, 2026.
