Marieangela King is speaking out after filing for divorce from Elijah Blue Allman.

On Tuesday, April 8, the singer filed for dissolution of her marriage to Allman, 48, the son of Cher and late Allman Brothers Band musician Gregg Allman. King, 37, shared an exclusive statement with PEOPLE about their separation.

“We had a beautiful 13-year journey, filled with memories I’ll always cherish. I know we’ll remain friends, and Elijah will always hold a special place in my heart,” King told PEOPLE exclusively.

“As we turn the page to this next chapter, we kindly ask for privacy and truly appreciate your understanding.”

According to court documents obtained by PEOPLE, King cited irreconcilable differences and requested $6,000 per month in temporary spousal support, along with the couple’s 2017 Toyota Prius.

If Allman wants to keep the car, however, King seeks “an additional $2,000 one-time payment and $500 per month in spousal support” to “acquire a vehicle for her use.” King also is requesting Allman to pay for her legal fees.

The former couple, who originally wed in December 2013, separated on March 31.

Her filing comes a year after Allman’s initial 2021 filing for divorce from King was dismissed in February 2024. Allman filed to dismiss it “without prejudice” in January 2024, per court documents.

Amid Allman’s request to dismiss the 2021 divorce filing, Cher, 78, filed for a conservatorship for Allman in January 2024, claiming that he was “substantially unable to manage his financial resources,” per court documents obtained by PEOPLE. Cher’s request had been denied twice.

The judge ruled that there was not “sufficient evidence” to place Allman in a temporary conservatorship based on Cher’s hypotheticals. “That in and of itself is not basis for the court to appoint a probate conservatorship,” the judge ruled. “I have not seen the evidence to grant a temporary, emergency conservatorship as of today.”

In the filing rejecting Cher’s request, Allman said that he and King were “reconciling and cohabitating.”

Cher and Allman reached a private agreement regarding a conservatorship for him in September 2024. “The team successfully defended Elijah, resulting in Cher voluntarily dismissing her petition. This outcome allows the parties to focus on healing and rebuilding their family bond, a process that began during mediation and continues today,” a statement obtained by PEOPLE read.

Neither Cher nor Allman appeared in court, but they “privately resolved this matter” per Cher’s attorney and she dismissed the petition without prejudice.
