Elisabeth Moss Now Knows Which ‘The Handmaid’s Tale’ Crew Member Asked for Her Character’s Underwear

Elisabeth Moss now knows the identity of The Handmaid’s Tale crew member who wanted to take her character June’s underwear home with them.
Moss, 42, offered an update to People on Monday, April 7 after originally sharing the story last month, saying, “I think it is so funny. Also, I know who it is, but I need him to [reveal himself]. He told me and it wasn’t exactly what we thought it was.”
The actress poked fun at the situation. “It’s not bad. It’s not as bad as we thought it was,” she quipped on Monday. “He didn’t actually specifically ask for my underwear, which is good. So we’re good guys.”
ICYMI, Moss surprised Handmaid’s Tale viewers when she revealed on Jimmy Kimmel Live! that someone requested the underwear she wore on the show as a memento once the series wrapped production.
“We had an email sent to all of the [executive producers] that was like a full list of all the props and costumes that we could take,” she recalled in March. “In a very mature way, I wrote back ‘Dibs.’ And then I proceeded to say everything I wanted.”
Moss specifically wanted June’s underwear that she wore. “That was specially designed. And someone told me that someone already asked for it,” she noted, to which Jimmy Kimmel replied, “This is your custom underwear that you wore and some creep on the staff requested it in writing? Like, ‘I want Elisabeth’s underpants. I’m going to take them home. I’m going to put them in storage for a while.’”
In response, Moss joked that “hopefully” the plan would be storage.
“[That would be] the best case scenario,” she added. “I have to work with these people. I don’t want to know who wants my underwear.”
Based on Margaret Atwood’s novel of the same name, The Handmaid’s Tale takes place in a dystopian future where low fertility rates have resulted in women being forcefully assigned to men for the sole purpose of bearing children. In addition to Moss, Samira Wiley, Yvonne Strahovski, Madeline Brewer, Ann Dowd, O-T Fagbenle, Max Minghella and Amanda Brugel have led the cast since the show’s premiere.
The Handmaid’s Tale is wrapping up, with its sixth and final seasonpremiering on Tuesday, April 8, but the universe continues to grow. Atwood’s 2019 novel The Testaments is a spinoff that Hulu has already ordered to series.
“There are people who return and the same thing in the Testaments. We’re gonna bring characters from The Handmaid’s Tale to that world as well,” creator Bruce Miller teased while speaking with Us. “So there are people who show up — but to tell you who they are will take away all the fun.”
Executive producer Warren Littlefield called the show’s finale “really satisfying,” telling Us, “Living in the world of Gilead for our audience is sometimes a tough journey. But I think their patience will be rewarded because this final year is ordinary women doing extraordinary things. The revolution is here and they’re highly effective. There’s joy. Is there still a Gilead? Yeah. But we celebrate what they accomplish and I think it’ll be very satisfying for the audience.”
The Handmaid’s Tale airs Tuesdays and new episodes will be streaming on Hulu.
