Elle Fanning is able to laugh at herself.
In an interview with W Magazine published on Tuesday, Jan. 6, the actress, 27, recalled the time she fainted at Cannes Film Festival, calling the 2019 incident “hilarious.”
“Yes, my dress was too tight,” Fanning told the outlet. “My sister was sitting at another table, and she saw my chair just completely fall back. It’s kind of hilarious — very dramatic.”
She continued, “Colin Firth was there, and he rushed to my side. It was the talk of the festival.”
Fanning also explained that she’s “known to faint.”
“In school, I would faint a lot,” the Sentimental Value actress recalled. “I grew, like, seven inches in one year, and I guess my body was growing so much that I got altitude sickness.”
Fanning attended the May 2019 film festival as a main juror. The health scare occurred at the Chopard Trophee dinner just as Festival director Thierry Fremaux was introducing actor Francois Civil onstage, according to Variety. The actress was wearing a pink Prada gown adorned with red, pink and blue flowers.
The outlet reported that the actress suddenly collapsed and fell off her chair.
At the time, the star spoke out about the health scare on Instagram.
“Oops, had a fainting spell tonight in my 1950’s Prada prom dress but it’s all good,” she captioned a selfie, which showed her giving a thumbs up.
Fanning explained she fainted due to her dress being too tight and it was also that “#timeofthemonth.”
The post was flooded with support from both fans and celebrities.
“Where’s your smelling salts when you need em??” January Jones wrote in the comment section in reference to a stimulant which is used to revive a person if they lose consciousness.
“Amen!” Fanning wrote back.
In her W Magazine interview, Fanning also shared that she doesn’t have any fashion regrets — but there’s one hairstyle that doesn’t work for her.

“I don’t live with regrets,” she said. “That’s just not my style, but I did try bangs once. Faux bangs that you clip in. Being a blonde, it’s hard to match the color of my hair, and it just looked like a big toupee was on the top of my head. I won’t be doing that again.”
