Elle Macpherson called out by veteran journalist over ‘difficult’ and ‘tense’ interview about holistic cancer treatments

Veteran journalist Tracy Grimshaw called out Elle Macpherson over her “difficult” and “tense” interview about the model’s holistic cancer treatments.
In an article for Australian site 9Now, Grimshaw shared that she was told not “to focus too much on her breast cancer” during their chat and to talk about other things from Macpherson’s new book, “Elle: Life, Lessons, and Learning to Trust Yourself.”
“Our challenge was to counter Elle’s belief in holistic treatment with the hard science around conventional treatments, while also respecting her right to do whatever she wants and her equal right to talk about it,” the journalist said.
“It was difficult and at times tense.”
Grimshaw, 64, said she “tried to forge a path down the middle of those competing narratives” of remembering Macpherson, 60, “is a cancer survivor who had half her breast removed in her second lumpectomy and whatever you think of her subsequent choices.”
The former “A Current Affair” host said though she’s not a doctor, she “trusts” conventional medicine and believes the “Sports Illustrated Swimsuit” model “owes more to her two lumpectomies than her eight months of spiritual/herbal/dental/chiropractic therapies in Arizona.”
Last week, Macpherson revealed that she had been diagnosed with breast cancer seven years ago and had refused treatment advice from more than 30 doctors.
The “Sirens” actress refused to undergo a mastectomy, chemotherapy, hormone therapy and breast reconstruction surgery and instead took a more holistic approach to her treatment.
“It was unexpected, it was confusing, it was daunting in so many ways. And it really gave me an opportunity to dig deep in my inner sense to find a solution that worked for me,” she told Women’s Weekly on Sept. 2.
“I realized I was going to need my own truth, my belief system to support me through it,” she continued.
“And that’s what I did.”
On Monday, Macpherson doubled down on her holistic approach to cancer during an interview on Australia’s “Today” show.
“Just to be clear, I sought a lot of medical advice. It was very interesting, because every doctor has a different opinion on how to treat my specific case of breast cancer,” she said.
“There was no clear path and there was no guarantees either way. So, I just made a decision based on all the information that I gathered and what felt right for me.”
Macpherson, who is now in remission, previously made headlines for promoting an anti-vaccine campaign.
