Elton John says his health has ‘never been better’ despite losing eyesight

Elton John said that his health “has never been better” despite losing sight in one eye and having complications with the other.

The “I’m Still Standing” singer appeared on Wednesday’s episode of “Good Morning America” with his husband, David Furnish, when he was asked about his past “health challenges.”

“Well, David and I always have blood tests every six months in Los Angeles [and] our health has never been better,” he explained.

The Grammy winner, 77, went on to explain that it’s been “four months” since he’s been able to see in his right eye while his left eye is now “not the greatest.”

“There’s hope and encouragement that it will be OK,” John clarified of his left eye. “We’re taking an initiative to try and get it better, but at the moment that’s really what we’re concentrating on.”

The “Rocket Man” singer furthered that “it’s never fortunate for anything like this to happen.”

“I can’t see anything, I can’t read anything, I can’t watch anything,” he continued.

The “Rocket Man” singer first announced his eyesight struggles in a statement released in September.

“Over the summer, I’ve been dealing with a severe eye infection that has unfortunately left me with only limited vision in one eye,” he wrote at the time. “I am healing, but it’s an extremely slow process and it will take some time before sight returns to the impacted eye.”

John later sparked further concern when he spoke with guests at “The Devil Wears Prada: The Musical” charity gala in London last week.

“As some of you may know, I have had issues and now I have lost my sight. I haven’t been able to see the performance, but I have enjoyed listening to it,” John told the crowd.

John thanked Furnish for being his “rock” throughout the ordeal and helping him embrace the musical –– for which he created the original score.

“I’ve lost my eyesight, so it’s hard for me to see it, but I love to hear it,” he continued. “And, boy, it sounded good tonight! OK! Thank you for coming!”
