Elton John, Yungblud and More Celebs Pay Tribute to Rock Icon Ozzy Osbourne: ‘The Greatest of All Time’

Stars are paying tribute to Ozzy Osbourne, whose death was announced on July 22.

“It is with more sadness than mere words can convey that we have to report that our beloved Ozzy Osbourne has passed away this morning,” Osbourne’s family told PEOPLE in a statement. “He was with his family and surrounded by love. We ask everyone to respect our family privacy at this time.”

The legendary rocker had been open about his health setbacks in recent years, including his Parkinson’s disease diagnosis.

Weeks before his death, Osbourne performed from a throne at the final Black Sabbath concert in Birmingham, England.

Black Sabbath posted a picture of Osbourne at the final concert on their X account, simply writing: “Ozzy Forever!”

Yungblud, who saw Osbourne weeks prior at the final Black Sabbath show, was shocked to hear of his death. “I didn’t think you would leave so soon the last time we met you were so full of life and your laugh filled up the room. But as it is written with legends, they seem to know the things that we don’t,” Yunglud, 27, began his tribute on Instagram.

“I will never forget you – you will be in every single note I sing and with me every single time I walk on stage. Your cross around my neck is the most precious thing I own. You asked me once if there was anything you could do for me and as I said then and as I will say now for all of us the music was enough. You took us on your adventure – an adventure that started it all.”

“I am truly heartbroken. You were the greatest of all time,” concluded the musician.

Elton John also shared condolences for his “dear friend,” alongside the photo of the pair.

“So sad to hear the news of @ozzyosbourne passing away,” he began on Instagram. “He was a dear friend and a huge trailblazer who secured his place in the pantheon of rock gods – a true legend. He was also one of the funniest people I’ve ever met. I will miss him dearly. To Sharon and the family, I send my condolences and love.”

Jason Momoa, who served as host for Black Sabbath’s final concert on July 5, shared a photo of himself with Osbourne and his wife, Sharon. “Love you @ozzyosbourne All my aloha @sharonosbourne and ohana. So grateful. RIP,” he captioned the picture.

Green Day frontman Billie Joel Armstrong posted about Osbourne’s death on Instagram. “No words. We love you Ozzy,” he wrote.

Rolling Stones musician Ronnie Wood recalled the farewell show in Birmingham, weeks earlier. “I am so very sad to hear of the death of Ozzy Osbourne 💔🙏 What a lovely goodbye concert he had at Back To The Beginning in Birmingham🙏☀️❤️🎤,” he said.

Rock band Pantera thanked Osbourne for his contribution to the heavy metal genre. ” Thank you for all that you did for metal & Pantera. We wouldn’t be here if it wasn’t for you. Sharon, Jack, Kelly, Amy & Louis, we are so very sorry for your loss ❤️‍🩹.”

Gene Simmons paid tribute to the fellow rock icon. “Sad to report Ozzy has passed away. He was a giant. Admired and loved by millions of fans worldwide. Prayers and condolences go out to the Osborne family,” the KISS rocker wrote, sharing a news link to his death.

Pearl Jam’s Mike McCready reminisced about discovering Black Sabbath in high school. “Sad to hear Ozzy died today. When I was in high school I discovered Sabbath. ‘War Pigs’ was terrifying and mesmerizing at the same time. It was Ozzy’s voice that took me away to a dark universe. A great escape.”

“Then when The ‘Blizzard of Ozz’ record came out I was instantly a fan. Randy Rhoads was an influence on me to play lead guitar. Luckily I got to play on the song ‘Immortal’ on the last record. Thanks for the music, Ozzy it makes our journey in life better,” he added.”

Jon Bon Jovi shared two throwback pictures of him and Osbourne with long hair. “Much luv to Sharon and the beautiful Osbourne Family,” he wrote. “So sorry to hear of your loss. Rest easy Ozzy..”

Dee Snider of Twisted Sister reflected on the effects Osbourne’s music had on him. “Farewell @OzzyOsbourne. You and your bands changed my life. Thank you for the ride,” he said on X.

Nirvana thanked Osbourne “for the inspiration” in an X post. ” @BlackSabbath is the template for heavy Rock.”

Sean Lennon Ono shared a throwback picture of Osbourne on X. “One of the greatest of all time. @OzzyOsbourne R.I.P. 💔,” he captioned the post.

Actor Paddy Considine shared a picture of Osbourne on Instagram. “Ozzy. Some man for one man. Give them hell you f—— legend,” he wrote.

Flavor Flav posted a picture of him with the Prince of Darkness and Jelly Roll to X, along with a throwback photo of them. “Man,,, real heart broken over the passing of OZZY OSBOURNE,,, we go way back and it was a real honor to watch him get inducted into the @rockhall last year,” Flav, 66, wrote.

“Sending my love and prayers to Sharon and his kids and whole family. RIP.”

“RIP Ozzy. Right after the recent huge Black Sabbath final concert. Sad.. In my opinion the Creators of Heavy Metal 🤘🏽🙏,” Ice T posted on X.

Adam Sandler, who starred in the 2000 film Little Nicky alongside Osbourne, shared an Instagram tribute to the late rock icon.

“Whether we were in our basements with our brothers, in the woods with our buddies, in the car, at a keg party, on a boat, at football practice, at a sleepover….Nobody was more badass to crank up on our speakers than the one and only prince of darkness – Ozzy Osborne!” he wrote. 

Sandler, 58, continued: “Loved him a lot like we all did! Sending love to the family and so happy to have spent time with the legend himself. RIP.”

Aerosmith released a statement on X, telling the legend he won’t be forgotten. “We’re heartbroken to hear about the passing of our brother in rock, Ozzy Osbourne. A voice that changed music forever. From Black Sabbath to his solo work, Ozzy redefined what it meant to be heavy. He did it all with heart, grit, and that wild spirit only he could bring,” they began.

“Our love goes out to Sharon, his family, his band, and the millions around the world who felt his fire. Rock on, Ozzy. You will be missed, but never forgotten!”

Comedian Jim Norton reflected on the time he spent with Osbourne, calling himself “blessed.” “He loved his fans and cared deeply about what we thought. He never took us for granted. I’m forever grateful for having known him. All of my love to Sharon, Kelly, Jack, Aimee, Louis, Elliot and Jessica.”

Lisa Lange, senior vice president of PETA, shared a statement with PEOPLE who was a longtime animal advocate.

“Ozzy Osbourne was a legend and a provocateur, but PETA will remember the ‘Prince of Darkness’ most fondly for the gentle side he showed to animals—most recently cats, by using his fame to decry painful, crippling declawing mutilations,” she said. “Ozzy may have been the singer, but his wife, Sharon, and his daughter, Kelly, were of one voice when it meant protecting animals. Ozzy will be missed by animal advocates the world over.”
