Eric Dane’s friends set up GoFundMe after actor’s death
Friends of Eric Dane have set up a $250,000 fundraiser for his two daughters following his death.
A GoFundMe account states that the “Grey’s Anatomy” star died Thursday at the age of 53, “leaving behind his devoted wife, Rebecca, and his two teenage daughters, Billie and Georgia, who were the center of his world” following a battle with ALS.
“Following his diagnosis, Eric Even as his own health declined, he remained deeply committed to helping others facing the same devastating disease,” they continued.
“As his illness progressed far more quickly than anyone could have imagined, Eric’s friends have come together to create this GoFundMe to support his girls and their future needs.“
Dane’s family announced his death on Thursday in a statement to People. “With heavy hearts, we share that Eric Dane passed on Thursday afternoon following a courageous battle with ALS,” the statement read.
“Throughout his journey with ALS, Eric became a passionate advocate for awareness and research, determined to make a difference for others facing the same fight. He will be deeply missed, and lovingly remembered always.”
“Eric adored his fans and is forever grateful for the outpouring of love and support he’s received,” the statement concluded. “The family has asked for privacy as they navigate this impossible time.”
Following his death, the actor’s voice resurfaced in a pre-recorded video message to his daughters in Netflix’s “Famous Last Words,” urging them to “fight until your last breath” and “never give up” in the face of adversity.
Dane and wife Rebecca Gayheart called off their divorce in 2025 amid the “Brilliant Minds” actor’s diagnosis with the debilitating condition.
“We tell them, ‘We show up for people no matter what. He is our family. He is your father,’” Gayheart said of their daughters during an appearance on the “Broad Ideas” podcast in November.
Dane’s fundraiser comes after a GoFundMe for James Van Der Beek — who died on Feb. 11 following a battle with colon cancer — raised over $2.5 million for his wife, Kimberly, and their six children.
Celebrities including Zoe Saldana, Derek Hough and Steven Spielberg contributed to the effort, among many others.
