Ex-Congressman George Santos reveals he met his husband, Matt, on Grindr
Former Long Island Rep. George Santos finally admitted where he met his mysterious husband, Matheus “Matt” Gerard.
The ex-politician tells Page Six exclusively that he and Gerard met on gay dating app Grindr in a “glitch” that made it seem like Gerard was much closer in proximity to Santos than he actually was.
“By the way, because I’m here in New York, and he’s all the way in Jersey,” Santos says. “Grindr said he was a couple of feet away from me when he was miles away from it.”
He added, “So [it] was a system glitch, in a sense, and I’m like, ‘Oh, was it meant to be? Or is it just my, you know.’”
Santos, 35, married Gerard in 2021 but said there was “nothing romantic” or “fancy” about their nuptials.
“He hates when I tell people [that we met on Grindr],” the pol says. “It’s pretty sad.”
The Republican lawmaker, who has been reviving his drag queen persona Kitara on Cameo, acknowledged that the dating scene in Manhattan is “brutal” given people’s “high expectations.”
“The problem is, the people with those expectations don’t deliver the recognition well,” he adds.
Citizens first became aware of Santos’ marriage when he tweeted his condolences over the death of late Sen. Dianne Feinstein (D-Calif.) in September and mentioned his “husband Matt.”
“My husband Matt and I are heart broken [sic] by the news of the passing of Senator Feinstein,” he wrote at the time. “Our condolences to the Feinstein family as they grieve this grave loss.”
Santos wrote in a follow-up post that he is the “first openly gay Republican to be elected to Congress,” joking that in New York City, “coming out as a gay man was easier than coming out as a Republican.”
In February 2024, Page Six heard whispers that Santos had been spending time with a baby-faced OnlyFans performer called Michael Doherty, but the New York native staunchly denied any inkling of a secret romance.
“Mr. Doherty owns a managing company for social media creators called Vizie, and I have engaged them to manage my social media portfolio,” he explained. “My relationship with him starts and ends there.”
Santos became the sixth person in history to be expelled from Congress after an exposé revealed he had spun a web of lies and exaggerations on the campaign trail, and the Ethics Committee investigation revealed his misuse of campaign funds.
He has pleaded not guilty to 23 federal fraud charges.
