  • Some fans called it a “crime” and said it was in “poor taste,” while others thought it was “great” and want people to stop being “sensitive”

Rod Stewart’s tribute to Ozzy Osbourne had fans confused.

The “Maggie May” singer has been paying tribute to the late Black Sabbath rocker during shows by dedicating his song “Forever Young” to him. During his July 29 concert in Charlotte, North Carolina, an AI video played on a screen behind him.

The AI-generated video features Osbourne, who died on July 22 at 76, in heaven using a selfie stick to pose with other musicians who have died, including Tina Turner, Michael Jackson and Prince. Freddie Mercury, Tupac, Kurt Cobain, and Amy Winehouse also make appearances.

The Charlotte Observer reported that the octogenarian provided some commentary as well. “Very sad. A lot of those people died ’cause of drugs,” Stewart told the audience while looking at the musicians who are gone, before adding, “I’m still here, though!”

One user shared the concert video on Instagram, writing, “Yes the rumors are true: I went to a Rod Stewart concert last night (lol) and witnessed man made horrors beyond my comprehension.”

Fans were baffled by the video, sharing their thoughts on the bizarre tribute. “This is a crime that should be prosecuted to the fullest extent,” one wrote. “do we genuinely think amy winehouse would be smiling at a selfie stick even in heaven bc idk man,” another said.

“Prince was 100% against this type of technology. He made that very clear while he was alive. This is all very much so in poor taste!” a third wrote of the singer who died in 2016. “JAIL IMMEDIATELY,” one person chimed in.

“Being buried with my selfie stick like a modern day pharaoh so I can join in,” someone else said about the trendy picture-taking apparatus. Another posted a gif of Larry David breaking a selfie stick in half.

Others commented on the potential target audience. “Boomers love Ai. You know someone like 65 is filming this at the other side of the venue and crying,” one said. “Something about it giving off ‘live, love, laugh’ vibes,” another wrote.

Some fans however thought the video was a touching display honoring Osbourne and co.

“I think this is great!! I see NO disrespect…….only people that have passed on and are enjoying each other again. It’s great to see smiling faces of people that have left us and gone to a better place!!!” one fan raved.

“Why on earth is this disrespectful???” another asked. “Meeting with all those stars in Heaven is a good thing to wish!!! Stop being soooo sensitive!!!”

“FAR from DISrespectful. I loved it. He actually was showing RESPECT. You should try it!” a third wrote.

PEOPLE reached out to Stewart for comment and did not receive an immediate response.

Stewart previously paid tribute to Osbourne with an Instagram post the day he died. “Bye, bye, Ozzy. Sleep well, my friend. I’ll see you up there — later rather than sooner,” he wrote.
