Doug Martin, a former NFL player, has died. He was 36.

Martin died on Saturday, Oct. 18. His family announced the news a day later, telling the Tampa Bay Times in a statement, “It is with great sadness to inform you all that Doug Martin passed away Saturday morning.”

Other details surrounding Martin’s death were not revealed, nor was a cause of death.

Martin played in the NFL for the Tampa Bay Buccaneers and the Oakland Raiders. He was with the Florida team from 2012 to 2017, and the other, now known as the Las Vegas Raiders, in 2018.

The running back was chosen by the Buccaneers in the first round of the 2012 NFL draft.

Before his time with the NFL, Martin attended Boise State University from 2007 to 2011, where he played for the Boise State Broncos.

Remembering Martin in a social media tribute after his death, the Buccaneers wrote, “We are deeply saddened to learn of the sudden and unexpected passing of Doug Martin.”

“From his record-setting rookie season in 2012 to his multiple Pro Bowl selections during his six seasons as a Buccaneer, Doug made a lasting impact on our franchise,” the team continued.

They added of Martin: “He was a fan favorite during his time in Tampa Bay and was honored as one of the Top 50 Buccaneers of all time for his numerous achievements. We extend our heartfelt condolences to his family, friends, and everyone whom Doug touched throughout his life.”
