Former Royal Butler Tells Haters to ‘Embrace’ Kate Middleton’s Hair: ‘Been Through a Real S*** Time’ (Exclusive)

Former royal butler Grant Harrold is on board with Princess Kate Middleton’s new blonde hair.
“She looks beautiful,” Harrold told Us Weekly exclusively while promoting his upcoming book, The Royal Butler: My Remarkable Life of Royal Service. “Over the years, she didn’t reinvent herself, she does little changes.”
Harrold was, of course, referring to Kate, 43, stepping out with a new look during a recent engagement with husband Prince William.
“She’s beautiful. She’s been through a real s*** time. Why not enjoy? She’s not afraid of doing that,” Harrold continued, referring to Kate’s cancer battle last year. “It is a bit sad when people are saying, ‘Oh, she’s colored it because she’s ill. Oh, she’s color it’s a wig.’ I’m thinking, ‘Leave her alone.’”
Some online trolls had some not-so-nice things to say about Kate’s hair after she stepped out with the change on Thursday, September 4. Princess Diana’s former hairdresser Sam McKnight even slammed haters via his Instagram Story.
Harrold told Us that fans should “embrace” this new era of Kate.
“She’s been through a really bad time,” he added. “She’s trying to feel good, and she’s trying to make herself look beautiful.”
Harrold worked as King Charles III’s butler for years, meaning he has pretty good insight into the royal family. While Kate’s hair is a topic of conversation at the moment, Harrold recalled “having a conversation about getting older” in his book — which led to a discussion about William’s infamous bald spot.
“I said that surely the worst thing about aging was losing your hair and going bald,” Harrold wrote in the book, according to an excerpt obtained by Us. “Kate started sniggering and William gave me a look and said, ‘Thanks for that.’ It hadn’t occurred to me that, of course, by then he was starting to lose his hair.”
Harrold told Us that “no one talked about” William’s bald spot among the staff.
“Of course, I go and put my foot in it and turn around and say in the kitchen about the worst thing about getting old is getting bald without realizing what I’d said. Kate busting out laughing,” he said. “Nobody gave you a rule book saying, ‘You can’t do this, you can’t do that.’ It was just an unwritten rule. You just knew, not to mention something like that. That was it.”
The Royal Butler: My Remarkable Life of Royal Service is set to be released on Tuesday, September 23.
