Frankie Muniz Discusses ‘Hitting Rock Bottom’ Amid Struggles: ‘Nightmare I’m Praying to Wake Up From’

Frankie Muniz got candid about currently struggling with a difficult point in his life.

“The last 6 weeks of my life have been a nightmare I’m praying to wake up from,” Muniz, 40, wrote via Instagram on Friday, September 18. “Everything felt heavy, unclear, and like it was falling apart at the same time. I wouldn’t wish this season on anyone.”

Muniz reflected on how he could learn from his current hardships.

“The unexpected gift in the middle of it is that I’ve had nowhere to hide,” he noted. “I’ve had time to sit with myself, do real self-reflection, and finally see the areas of my life that need work if I want to become a better version of me. Not the polished version I show the world … the actual one.”

In the emotional post, Muniz hinted at how ongoing challenges have affected him, adding, “I read that sometimes hitting rock bottom is the thing that wakes you up. It forces the changes you needed to make all along so you can live the best life possible. That idea has been sitting with me.”

He continued: “In five years I believe I’ll look back at this exact low point and feel grateful for it, because the high I’ll be standing on then only exists because I went through this.”

Muniz clarified that he was looking forward to overcoming his current issues.

“This isn’t the end of the story. It’s the part where I start doing the work … the uncomfortable, unglamorous, necessary work. I’m choosing to treat this season as the foundation, not the finish line,” he wrote. “If you’re in a low place right now too, you’re not broken. You’re being rebuilt. Let’s keep going!”

Earlier this month, Muniz took to X to mention how he has been “struggling,” which appeared to hint at personal issues. The Malcolm in the Middle alum also shared photos of him as a child, writing, “Sometimes I wish I could go back to this.”

Muniz’s candid Instagram post comes two months after he announced his separation from wife Paige Price Muniz.

“Following a period of separation that we kept private, Paige and I have decided to move forward with ending our marriage,” a social media statement read. “After 10 beautiful years together, we’ve grown in ways that made us realize our relationship feels most natural and strong as a deep friendship and as co-parents. We share an incredible son who remains the center of our world, and we’re both happier, stronger parents because of the love and growth we’ve shared.”

Frankie Muniz and Paige Price announced in July 2026 that they were calling it quits after a six-year marriage. The former Malcolm in the Middle star and his wife shared the breakup news in a joint social media statement, revealing they’d quietly separated before making it official. Their decade-long romance started with a fairy tale […]

The actor continued, “I’m endlessly grateful to Paige for everything she’s done for me and our family. She put her own dreams on hold so I could chase mine, and she was always my biggest supporter. That foundation of respect and friendship isn’t going anywhere. We’re excited to keep building Muniz Racing together and to co-parent our boy with the same teamwork and love we’ve always had.”

Before parting ways, Frankie spoke to Us about trying to balance his personal and professional lives.

“Honestly, my wife is a saint. She’s sacrificing so much for me to live my dream,” he told Us in April about having his family’s support while making the move to professional stock car racing driver. “My family comes to a few of the races. They’re here this week, obviously, but it’s hard to uproot them and take them all over the place. I want my son to have a routine and his school and his friends and go to church. I’m not going to lie, it’s been very, very, very tough.”

According to Frankie, he was “constantly trying to be better.”

“I know I need to be better,” he stated. “I know it’s not easy for her to be basically a single mother a lot of the time, if I’m being honest.”
