‘Gentlemen’ star Theo James has blunt response to Meghan Markle casting buzz
“Gentlemen” star Theo James chimed in on the Meghan Markle casting buzz.
When asked about recent rumors that an ex-royal may join Season 3 of the Netflix show, the actor told Town & Country, “Yes, Fergie is joining.”
The “Divergent” star, 41, quipped on Wednesday that Andrew Mountbatten Windsor’s ex-wife, Sarah Ferguson, would “be playing [his] love interest.”
James went on to call the speculation “mainly a lot of hot air.”
He told the outlet, “At the moment, we’re just trying to get as many eyes on Season 2, and then Season 3 will happen soon.”
The second season of the show will premiere Thursday — and Page Six recently confirmed the series, which first aired in March 2024, has been renewed for a third installment.
On Wednesday, James opened up about Guy Ritchie’s action-comedy series’ “overarching ambition” for future episodes.
“We’re going to expand the world, go to different countries,” the Emmy nominee said. “But in terms of the minutiae, I mean, it’s still very much up in the air.”
Markle’s rep did not immediately respond to Page Six’s request for comment.
One week before the “White Lotus” alum’s cryptic comments about Markle, Netflix boss Manda Levin fueled chatter about the Duchess of Sussex.
“All bets are off,” she said at the Edinburgh TV Festival in August when questioned.
Deadline reported last month that Markle was being considered for an unknown role, with the Hollywood Reporter claiming the role “is currently being written.”
The outlet noted, “It’s unclear how many episodes [Markle] would appear in.”
A source told us that while “there have been inquiries in the entertainment space recently and things she is considering,” nothing is “confirmed right now.”
“The Gentlemen” films in and around London — and Markle just relocated to the United Kingdom from her Montecito, California, mansion with husband Prince Harry and their two children, Prince Archie and Princess Lilibet.
The family of four landed across the pond on Aug. 26, six years after the “Suits” actress, 45, and Harry, 41, quit the royal family and left England.
We’re told the retired royals returned to be closer to King Charles III, who has been diagnosed with cancer, and are reportedly house hunting in the North Cotswolds.
Page Six also reported that Archie, 7, and Lilibet, 5, will attend a posh UK prep school that costs more than $35,000 a year.
