The Giants’ hearts are heavy for Cam Skattebo.

The New York team’s rising star, 23, suffered a brutal ankle injury in the second quarter of their game against the Philadelphia Eagles at Lincoln Financial Field on Sunday, Oct. 26.

Skattebo, a rookie running back on the Giants who has quickly built a devoted fanbase alongside fellow first-year star, quarterback Jaxson Dart, dislocated his ankle early in the team’s 38-20 loss to the Eagles.

He sustained the gruesome injury when he was taken to the ground by Eagles linebacker Zack Baun while attempting to catch the football. Skattebo’s awkward fall caused his foot to get stuck in the grass and bend awkwardly beneath him on the field.

His Giants teammates looked on in dismay at the standout player’s hard-to-believe injury as he was carted off the field with an air cast on his right leg. He was ruled out of the game shortly before halftime.

22-year-old Dart appeared to be among the most distraught about Skattebo’s pain, and was seen swearing several times on the broadcast upon the uncertainty of losing his counterpart.

As Skattebo was being transported off the field, his quarterback buddy was sure to leave him with a proper parting: their go-to friendly, helmetless head bump.

The Giants announced that Skattebo would undergo surgery later that night at a local Philadelphia hospital.

“I feel absolutely terrible for the young man,” head coach Brian Daboll said after the game. “Obviously, saw it. Looked bad. You feel for anybody on your team that goes down and has a really bad injury. I feel and I know the players feel the same way about Skatt.”

His right-hand man, Dart, said, “That’s my boy, so seeing him go down and obviously, reacting to what happened, it sucks. It’s the worst part of this game,” during his post-game presser.

The first-round draft pick also sent a message to Skattebo on Instagram.

“💔 my brother Mann. Got your back no matter what dawg! GODS PLAN,” the QB captioned a post alongside the running back on his Instagram Stories.

It’s been a rollercoaster of a ride for Skattebo, who enjoyed the best game of his rookie career in the Giants’ upset over the Eagles just two weeks prior to his injury. He scored three times and contributed 110 scrimmage yards in the 34-17 victory.

He also helped Dart secure the team’s first win of the season in Week 4 against the Los Angeles Chargers with a final score of 21-18.
