‘Heated Rivalry’ star Robbie GK on Season 2, taking style risks and his dream Broadway role
To quote his “Heated Rivalry” character, Robbie G.K.’s not just a pretty face.
In the several months since Crave’s hockey romance started streaming on HBO Max, it’s become a smash hit — and completely changed the Canadian actor’s life in the process.
“It truly comes in waves,” G.K. tells Page Six Style of the show’s massive hype.
“Some days it all feels like a mirage, or I think the show isn’t that big of a deal. And then other days, the global reach this show has slaps me across the face and leaves me shocked. I wish there was a stronger word than gratitude, because I feel so much more than that, to be a part of this journey.”
In recent weeks, G.K.’s sat front row at Paris Fashion Week, attended the Super Bowl — and, most recently, starred in an Ugg campaign showcasing the brand’s Otzo Clog. (In a clever bit of marketing, François Arnaud, who plays his character’s love interest in “Heated Rivalry,” was spotted wearing his own pair shortly after the ads dropped.)
“The shoot was laid-back, fun and very aligned with my aesthetic,” G.K. says. “The Otzo Clogs are my first Ugg shoes, and I genuinely wear them every day.”
Below, the Ontario native discusses working with Ugg, how he’s leveling up his style and his go-to smoothie order. (Spoiler alert: The banana makes a big difference.)
So many of us have really nostalgic connections to Ugg. What’s your relationship with the brand been like?
I remember when Ugg first came on the scene and was mostly viewed as a very comfy, warm shoe option in the cold winters of Toronto. It’s been really cool to see how they’ve strategically grown the brand into an elevated, comfortable, fashion-forward shoe.
How would you describe your personal style, and has it evolved at all since you’ve started walking more red carpets and attending more fashion events?
I think functionality stays at the forefront of my personal style. However, my day-to-day life has changed and as a result, my style has to. I think being exposed to more fashion events, I definitely have a bit more courage taking chances on things that may or may not work. Oh, also, comfort is key. I’m fortunate enough to travel a lot these days, so everything I own has to be very comfy.
Some fans may not know that you have a musical theater and dance background! If you could star in any Broadway show, which would it be?
Great question, and easy answer: I’d love to be any part of the Jets male ensemble in “West Side Story.”
“Heated Rivalry” Season 2 feels so far away! Anything you’re able to share about Scott and Kip’s future?
I genuinely don’t know what the future holds for “Skip” — and even if I did, Jacob [Tierney, the show’s creator] would destroy me if I said anything. I hope whatever Season 2 holds, the fans get what they want out of it.
Finally, I have to ask: What’s your usual smoothie order?
Been crushing the same smoothie for over 10 years: Bananas-A-Whey from Booster Juice in Canada. Booster Juice, it’s your boy. Let’s chat!
