Hilary Duff Breaks Down in Tears After Accidentally Spilling Coffee in Her Balenciaga Purse: ‘Sobbed’

Hilary Duff had an emotional moment after accidentally ruining her designer handbag.

“Spilled my entire coffee inside my purse and [car] front seat,” Duff, 38, wrote via her Instagram Stories on Friday, October 24. “A whole milk latte. Didn’t even get one sip.”

Duff continued in a follow-up slide, “And then I called my husband [Matthew Koma] and sobbed.”

The How I Met Your Father alum also shared a photo from the incident, in which remnants from the drink landed inside her beige Balenciaga handbag and drenched her belongings, including a hand-stitched DIY toy, a packaged Lola tampon and the purse fabric itself. (Balenciaga bags often sell anywhere between $700 and $4,000.)

While Duff did not further share an update after seemingly ruining her handbag, she presumably was soothed by Koma, 38, during their phone conversation. Duff and Koma have been married since December 2019.

“Happy birthday to my best friend in the entire world @hilaryduff. My favorite part about this day is how the people in your life get a chance to give you your flowers, and tell you how insanely much you mean to us,” Koma wrote via Instagram last month, honoring his wife’s birthday. “You make everybody feel like the center of your universe. Your friends, your kids, your family. I don’t know how you’re physically or mentally able to be so present, give so much, and still make time for mahjong, but we’re all the luckiest to be on the receiving end of your love (and calendar coordination).”

Duff shares three daughters with Koma, as well as 13-year-old son Luca with ex-husband Mike Comrie.

“You are everything good and bright on this space rock, and to wake up every morning, getting to face our days together, is winning the lottery again and again,” Koma added in his September social media tribute. “Doing real life with you is my happy place, and makes everything outside of it seem simultaneously within the closest of reach and completely unimportant at the same time.”

Koma further revealed that it’s been “the f***ing best” collaborating with Duff on her upcoming album, her first in 10 years.

“Working on your album with you this year, on your terms, framed how it works for you, has been the f***ing best,” the Winnetka Bowling League musician continued in his birthday message. “I can’t wait for the world to hear what it sounds like when you get to speak directly to your people without anything or anyone standing in the way. This year’s going to be everything — high, low, overwhelming, scary, thrilling, exciting, full …and I have all the faith you’ll do it in only the way you can.”

He concluded, “I’ll be cheering front row. … I love you I love you I love you. Happy birthday ba! Welcome to 38!”

Duff responded in the comments section, “My gosh. Every time. My honey. masterclass of words.”

Duff had announced earlier in September that she signed with Atlantic Records and was working on a new album, in addition to a docuseries, chronicling her songwriting process.
