How Taylor Swift played a role in Travis Kelce’s Chiefs docuseries, ‘The Kingdom’
Taylor Swift was on board for her boyfriend Travis Kelce and his Kansas City Chiefs teammates’ new ESPN’s docuseries, “The Kingdom.”
The pop superstar “approved all of her image and likeness” use for the six-part series, director Kristen Lappas told reporters on Saturday, according to People. She was also “very supportive” of the project.
Lappas shared that filmmakers did not try to interview Swift for the series, however, in order to keep the focus of the doc on the renowned football franchise.
“Now you see her in the way that I think is how she wanted to be seen, which is as a fan of the community,” Chiefs CMO and Foolish Club Studios COO Lara Krug added.
“The Kingdom” primarily focuses on the Chiefs’ 2024 NFL season but also showcases the history of the football dynasty.
Aside from Kelce, quarterback Patrick Mahomes, defensive tackle Chris Jones and coach Andy Reid are all featured in the docuseries.
Swift’s allegiance to the project comes as no surprise, as she has been a huge supporter of the Super Bowl-winning team ever since she started dating Kelce, 35, in 2023.
She’s often seen attending games all across the US and Kelce shared in a recent interview just how big a fan of the sport the “Blank Space” singer had become.
“She is the most engulfed fan now,” Kelce told GQ. “She knows what the injury reports look like.
“She understands what special situations are, third and short, all these things, because she just naturally loves to hear about my job.”
During her appearance on his podcast, “New Heights,” earlier this month, Swift, 35, revealed how she went from someone who didn’t know how the game worked to becoming a super-fan.
“I didn’t know what a first down was,” the “Cruel Summer” singer admitted. “I didn’t know what the chains were. I didn’t know what a tight end was.”
Swift added that with Kelce’s help, though, she fell in love with football and became “obsessed” with it.
“I became like a person who was running through the halls of my house screaming, ‘We just drafted Xavier Worthy,’ and my friends were like, ‘Who body snatched you? What do you mean we drafted Xavier Worthy?’” she joked.
The support goes both ways in the relationship. Kelce also gushed to GQ of attending the Grammy winner’s concerts, “I get to go and be that fan. Because I am a fan.”
