October isn’t a busy month on Amazon Prime Video, at least when it comes to original series.

However, Prime Video is currently hosting the first season of From, a horror series that launched in 2022.

Although From was originally an Epix original series, it’s currently produced for MGM+ with a fourth season in production.

Watch With Us has selected From as the one Prime Video show that you have to watch in October, because season 1 is leaving on November 1.

Halloween is just around the corner, but you wouldn’t know it by looking at Prime Video’s 10 most popular movies and shows chart. Subscribers don’t appear to be interested in horror movies or series at all. Instead, they are catching up on Gen V season 2 and watching Mark Wahlberg’s Play Dirty. Two new entries […]

The Premise Is Intriguing

From is perhaps best described as Lost meets Stephen King. Somewhere in the United States, there’s a town that’s been completely cut off from the rest of the world through otherworldly means. Sometimes people can get in, but they can’t find their way back out.

As long as there’s enough supplies to survive, that wouldn’t have been too bad. But the King-like touch is that there are shapeshifting monsters living in the forest outside of town that can take on human form. Every night, the monsters come out to hunt for anyone foolish enough to be stuck outside. Even the residents on the inside aren’t safe. All of the normal people in town are prey for the creatures, and their battle to stay alive never ends. If they ever let their guard down, they may all pay the ultimate price.

Harold Perrineau Gives a Compelling Performance

One of the reasons why From invites comparisons to Lost is that Perrineau stars in both series. While Perrineau was relegated to a supporting role on Lost, he takes center stage in From as Boyd Stevens, the closest thing that the town has to a mayor or a sheriff.

Boyd’s army background gives him the experience he needs to fight back against the monsters and keep the town as safe as possible. But as shown in season 1, the town has already shattered Boyd’s family and severely strained his relationship with his son, Ellis Stevens (Corteon Moore). Holding the people together is Boyd’s crucible, and he’s not always able to do so. The monstrous creatures recognize Boyd’s importance and target him directly. If Boyd ever breaks mentally, then it might be game over for the rest of the survivors as well.

The Mystery Deepens as the Show Progresses

We won’t spell out the twists and turns that occur in From season 1, which lead to even more surprises in the subsequent two seasons. All we can say is that the initial setup for the series isn’t a complete picture of what’s really happening in the town, and there is a way out. However, not everyone will live long enough to put that information to use.

If you find From to be a show that you enjoy, the good news is that seasons 2 and 3 are already online. The bad news is that you’ll need an MGM+ subscription to watch those seasons. But if you’re a veteran binge-watcher, you may be able to blow through the 20 episodes of seasons 2 and 3 during MGM+’s seven-day free trial period.

From season 1 is streaming on Prime Video until November 1.
