YouTuber Nella Rose has accused I’m a Celebrity… Get Me Out of Here! of editing the show in a way that made her look like a “troublemaker”, in her first video for three years.
The 13-minute-long piece to camera shows the 26-year-old updating fans on what she’s been upto during her lengthy hiatus, including huge life changes like buying a house, as well as her incredible career milestones so far.
But she also addresses the controversy surrounding her appearance on the ITV reality show in December 2023, which she believes was edited unfairly. Nella, who admits her career felt “stagnant” prior to her break, said she needed to establish a career outside of YouTube, and wanted to become a “household name”.
After rising to internet fame in 2016, at just 18, her relatable videos saw her rack up more than 800,000 subscribers. In her quest to cement herself as a media personality on TV, she presented Catfish UK on MTV, and Channel 4’s viral show Tapped Out. But her I’m A Celeb appearance threatened to jeopardise her success. A series of spats with Nigel Farage, Fred Siriex and even winner Sam Thompson, saw her lose the public vote and become the second contestant to leave the jungle.
In the YouTube video, captioned: “I’m back.. I guess?”, she slammed the show for how she was portrayed. Nella said: “Whilst I was in there they depicted me to be like this troublemaker that was just going around beefing people. When I came out I realised that a lot of conversations were not aired, for example intimate emotional conversations that were leading up to certain comments that offended me weren’t aired so now I just look like I’m moving mad. The resolutions weren’t shown. I only got airtime when I was being thrown in with the snakes or when I was in conflict, there were so many conversations that were cut out.”
On leaving the jungle, Nella made it clear she was concerned about how she had been perceived. Guided by a producer, she nervously asked: “Have I been cancelled? Have people been slandering me?” A producer reassured her she wasn’t cancelled, before she hugged Ant McPartlin and Declan Donnelly and admitted: “That was so nerve-wracking. I’m so scared, I feel like I looked horrible.”
The hosts told her she didn’t look horrible, with Ant saying: “We loved you in there… If you walked out early on, we would have just seen conflict and nothing else. We wouldn’t have got to see the full you, you know? I’m really pleased you stayed.” On the car ride back to the hotel, she admitted she felt ‘nervous’ about how she came across.
“I’m kind of nervous of my perception to the public. I feel like I was 100% myself. It is what it is, I signed up for it and did it. Came out, now we deal with the consequences.”
