Inside Britney Spears’ relationship with her family 4 years post-conservatorship
Britney Spears has had a rocky relationship with her family members after her conservatorship was officially terminated nearly four years ago.
The “Toxic” singer’s dad, Jamie Spears, arranged a legal conservatorship over his daughter in February 2008 after the pop star’s headline-making meltdown.
In June 2021, Britney, 43, argued in a public court hearing that her relatives didn’t do “a goddamn thing” to help her break free from her father’s control.
“My dad and anyone involved in this conservatorship … they should be in jail,” she said at the time.
Britney’s 13-year conservatorship was finally put to an end in November 2021 — though her family dynamics have continued to evolve since she gained her freedom.
A source told Us Weekly this week that Britney’s relationship with her dad is “nonexistent” and there is no way she is open to reconciling.
Another insider agreed, telling the outlet, “There’s zero communication on either side, and that’s how she likes it.”
The second source said that “furious” Britney will “never” forgive Jamie and that he has come to terms with living a “very quiet life now.”
However, another source claimed Britney still “loves” Jamie, 73, and that she even offered to cover his medical bills and find him the best doctors when he needed his leg amputated due to an infection in 2023.
Britney allegedly has a more “complicated” relationship with her mom, Lynne Spears.
“Their relationship is very fragile,” the first source said. “[Lynne] reaches out to Britney for the most part. They talk and text every few weeks. [There are] no plans for [her] mom to visit anytime soon.”
The second source noted that the mother-daughter duo “still have highs and lows” and are working on their relationship day by day. Lynne, 70, reportedly wants to be “close” with Britney again, but “understands” that her daughter is still “hurt and traumatized” by the conservatorship.
“She hopes one day they can focus on the future and not the past,” the second source said.
Britney and her sister, Jamie Lynn Spears, are allegedly planning on meeting up in person after their infamous falling out in 2022.
The “Zoey 101” alum, 34, and Britney famously took shots at each other in their respective memoirs released in 2022 and 2023. But they have since been on the mend and even reportedly FaceTime every few weeks..
“Britney and Jamie Lynn are doing better, and they’re planning on getting together soon,” the first source said. “The girls decided to keep their relationship problems out of the public eye … and Jamie Lynn is planning on visiting Britney next month in LA.”
Britney has maintained a close relationship with her brother Bryan in the last few years.
The film producer, 48, moved into Britney’s home after she and Sam Asghari filed for divorce in August 2023. Bryan has also recently been spotted on several vacations with his sister.
“Britney and Bryan are still close,” the first source shared. “He stays out of her issues with the rest of the family.”
As for her two kids she shares with ex-husband, Kevin Federline — Sean Preston and Jayden James — a source told the outlet that Britney and her sons are “healing together.”
“The boys are maturing and they want their mom in their lives, and Britney is really happy about that,” an insider told Us Weekly in an article published Sept. 9.
“She’s so grateful to have them in her life. She feels whole again.”
Jayden, 18, allegedly led the charge in reuniting with their mom, with a second insider sharing, “Britney and Jayden have had a close bond since he was very young, so slowly getting into their old groove has felt special and [healing for] both of them.”
However, Britney and Sean, 19, are rebuilding their relationship at a slower pace.
“[Sean and Britney are] slowly building more trust,” the first insider said. “Britney respects his wishes and is being very thoughtful of his [feelings].”
Page Six reported last year that Britney reunited with Jayden after years of being estranged.
Britney recently sparked concerns for her mental health after she shared a video of herself in her Los Angeles home, which was covered in dog poop.
A family member told the Daily Mail that they are “worried” about the singer and claimed that she is “not doing well at all” and is “having an episode.”
“Her house is a mess. She doesn’t clean up after the dogs, she doesn’t have someone there cleaning every day, and she just isn’t functioning like an adult would function,” the relative said.
Britney defended herself, writing on Instagram Wednesday, “Shame on those who judged my home in my pajamas !!!”
