Inside Millie Bobby Brown’s ‘trad wife’ life with Jake Bongiovi

After years in the Hollywood spotlight as Eleven in “Stranger Things,” Millie Bobby Brown is taking on the role of a lifetime at the tender age of 21: motherhood.
The actress and husband Jake Bongiovi, 23, stunned the world last week when they announced that they had adopted a baby girl.
The big news comes just over a year after the pair married — and raised eyebrows because Brown was too young at the time to legally take part in a Champagne toast. The young couple settled on a Georgia farm with animals aplenty.
In an age where mothers are having children later and later and with many eschewing starting a family altogether, the move led some fans — not all charitably — to call Brown a “tradwife” — a reference to the typically religious women on Instagram who have embraced traditional gender roles, often taking homemaking to pastoral extremes.
But, insiders say Brown is happy and doesn’t care what others think of her unconventional-for-Hollywood choices.
“She’s too confident to mess with,” an insider told The Post. “She doesn’t give a crap. Why should she?”
Indeed, the blonde starlet exuded joy on Aug. 22 in the Hamptons, as she pushed a stroller in a baby pink “Mother” crewneck alongside Bongiovi.
“This summer, we welcomed our sweet baby girl through adoption,” the two wrote in a joint statement on Instagram. “We are beyond excited to embark on this beautiful next chapter of parenthood in both peace and privacy.”
They punctuated the message: “And then there were 3. Love, Millie and Jake Bongiovi.”
The child star and rock scion — his dad is Jon Bon Jovi — met on Instagram in the summer of 2021.
The pair tied the knot in May 2024, and, shortly after, bought a farm in rural Georgia near Atlanta with more than 30 dogs, goats and a donkey named Bernard.
This past March on the “Call Her Daddy” podcast, Brown told host Alex Cooper that she understood why her married life had led some fans to call her a “tradwife” — but also explained her unusual choices.
“I love my job, I love being untraditional and unconventional in so many ways,” she told Cooper, admitting she does cook dinner for her model husband “every night.”
On the “Smartless” podcast in March, Brown noted that her mother had been 21 and her father just 19 when they’d had their first child. Starting a family young, she said, was a priority for her as well, though Bongiovi was insistent they get married first.
“We really want a big family. I’m one of four. He’s one of four,” she said. “I wanted to be a mom just like the way my mom was to me.”
Brown comes from humble beginnings. She was born in Marbella, Spain, to English parents and spent her early years in Bournemouth, a British seaside town. The family eventually moved to Los Angeles to pursue Millie’s acting dreams. She landed small parts on hits like “Modern Family” and “Grey’s Anatomy,” but money was tight.
“We did not have enough money for gas, dad wouldn’t drive me [to auditions] unless I knew every line,” Brown told The BBC Radio in 2020.
At one point, her manager, Melanie Greene, reportedly had to loan the family money.
Her big break came in 2016, when she was just 11, with her career-defining role as Eleven on the Netflix supernatural mega hit “Stranger Things,” alongside veteran actors Winona Ryder, 53 and David Harbour, 50.
Playing a young girl with a shaved head and psychokinetic abilities, the young beauty jumped off the screen.
The role earned Brown a Primetime Emmy Award nomination for Outstanding Supporting Actress in a Drama Series when she was 13. At 14, she became the youngest woman to ever be featured on the Time 100 list.
“She’s definitely by far, the best actor on the show,” Alexei Afonin, an actor who had a role on “Stranger Things” in 2020, told Page Six.
Another fellow “Stranger Things” actor, Chantell D. Christopher, recalled Bobby Brown’s nurturing and down-to-earth nature on set.
“She’s going to be a wonderful mother,” she told Page Six.
After the news broke that Bobby Brown adopted a baby girl, a source told People that Brown always knew motherhood was in the cards for her.
“She’s so young, but so focused. And she has the biggest heart,” the person told the outlet. “There’s no doubt that she’s a great mom. Pretty much everything she sets her mind to, she crushes.”
Sharon Sever, head designer for Galia Lahav, the label who made her ethereal, custom-made lace gown for the couple’s Tuscany wedding, was impressed by the actress’s self-assured demeanor.
“She’s very focused. Very sharp. Very smart,” he told Page Six. “For a young woman, she really knows what she wants. She knows what suits her and she’s no fuss.”
For all her Hollywood success, Brown seems to be loving life away from it all.
“They have really worked on creating this special family life in Georgia. She loves her farm — it’s going to be such a special place for the baby to grow up,” the source told People.
Afonin said he can see the appeal of being based in the country — not Tinseltown — for Brown.
“Acting has its ups and downs. It’s super demanding, the auditions, rejections, memorizing lines to a point where you don’t have to think about them. It’s huge. It’s difficult,” he said. “Why would you want to put yourself through the meat grinder? I can see maybe she’s sort of attracted to this sort of quieter life. The farm, the nature, having a couple of dogs, farm animals, raising a child. It’s a beautiful thing. It’s the opposite of Hollywood.”
At the same time, he’s skeptical that Brown will be on the farm forever.
“I’m afraid it might be a phase,” Afonin said, noting that he thinks Brown won’t fully abandon her career any time soon.
“When you put so much work into [a role] and you know you connected to the character — you know you did it well and people are clapping — you feel like you’re at the center of the universe,” he said
“What do you get on the farm? Looking at the blue sky and the perfect clouds — that’s nice and that’s all there is. Getting an award for so much hard work that you did, that’s a high.”
