Jenna Bush Hager Says Her Parents Have Opinions About The Residence, a New White House Murder Mystery Series

Jenna Bush Hager can confirm that The Residence has a presidential stamp of approval.
On the Thursday, April 10, episode of Today with Jenna & Friends, Andrew Rannells stopped by to discuss his upcoming movie I Don’t Understand You. However, the subject soon turned to the binge-worthy White House-set Netflix series, which counts Shonda Rhimes as one of its producers.
“We just finished,” the actor, 46, told Bush Hager, 43, about the series
The talk show host and daughter of 43rd U.S. President George W. Bush and former First Lady Laura Bush added, “Oh yeah, my parents are watching that.”
The Residence is a murder mystery series starring Uzo Aduba as detective Cordelia Cupp, who launches an investigation after a dead body turns up in the White House.
Her search for a killer takes place in a house of 132 rooms filled with 157 suspects after “a disastrous State dinner,” per a synopsis. The show was created by Paul William Davies and is inspired by Kate Andersen Bower’s novel The Residence: Inside the Private World of the White House.
“It’s great!” Rannells said of the Shondaland production, adding, “That must be odd for your parents watching that.”
According to Bush Hager, her parents “find it to be delightful.”
Further praising the show and its producer, she added, “So I guess Shonda Rimes can do everything.”
For Rannells, speaking to someone who was the child of a former president of the U.S., who happened to enjoy a television show about a White House murder, was simply too intriguing to not do some digging.
“Well, I would love to ask them how realistic was that set?” he said.
Bush Hager explained that her mother and father seemingly “thought it was good.”
“You should just pop in and take a look,” her guest suggested.
“Pop in on the set and give some notes?” she asked.
The Boys in the Band actor suggested that she “take a look,” because the show “is very good.”
In The Residence, Aduba, 44, works with White House Chief Usher A.B. Wynter (Giancarlo Esposito) and FBI special agent Edwin Park (Randall Park) to search for the killer in the White House.
While there were no reported murders at 1600 Pennsylvania Ave. while Bush Hager and her family called it home, there were some incidents that caused Secret Service agents to be on high alert!

On a March 27 episode of Today with Jenna & Friends, Bush Hager’s husband, Henry Hager, recalled a time back when they were younger and he hit a Secret Service vehicle when picking her up on their second date.
“No tax dollars were spent [to fix the car], but we were blocking a lot of traffic,” he joked after describing “a little bumper tap” during the mishap.
