Jesse Tyler Ferguson Reveals the Advice He Gives Throuples: ‘Closest to a Love Triangle I’ve Seen’ (Exclusive)

Jesse Tyler Ferguson has some choice words for anyone looking to get into a throuple.
“I steer away from the drama,” Ferguson, 49, exclusively told Us Weekly on August 21, while attending Shakespeare in the Park at the Delacorte Theater in New York City. “I’ve had friends who were in throuples and I was like, ‘Good luck with that.’ Honestly, none of them have lasted. So that’s the closest to a love triangle I’ve seen.”
Instead of engaging in love triangles or complicated throuples, Ferguson is happily married to Justin Mikita — the pair celebrated a decade of marriage back in 2023.
“Happy 10th Anniversary @justinmikita,” Ferguson wrote via Instagram at the time. “I love you so very much & am so happy I get to call you my huzzzzzzbin.” The pair met at a gym in 2012 and married a year later, just two years after gay marriage was legalized in the state of New York.
“We got married on a very hot night in July in NYC,” Mikita recalled to People at the time of their nuptials. “We held an afterparty at a hotel a few blocks away from the wedding venue.”
Ferguson added, “It was always our plan to have people parade over to the afterparty. Our wedding planner, Bryan Rafanelli, had the great idea of handing out noisemakers to guests so we could keep the vibe alive on the walk over to the new venue.”
The Modern Family star and his husband went on to welcome their two sons, Beckett and Sullivan, via surrogates in 2020 and 2022, respectively. The pair previously opened up to Us about their roles as parents and the bond between their sons.
“I love seeing Beckett and Sullivan’s early connection and seeing them play together, and also seeing them kind of like, collectively develop opinions about Justin and I,” Ferguson said in December 2024. “You know, we’re a little overbearing at times, and we want to hug them and snuggle them.”
He continued, “Collectively, they’re both like, ‘OK, enough, back up and together we’re deciding that you guys are a little overwhelming.’ I love that they’re kind of already, like, drawing a line in the sand together about us. That’s really sweet. I love that they’re gonna have each other for their whole lives.”
During the same exclusive interview, Ferguson also shared how his siblings help support him as a father.
“I love my siblings,” Ferguson, who has a brother and a sister, told Us at the time. “It’s so great having people who are around my age, who can, like, commiserate with me about my crazy parents. That’s just so important.”
