Jessica Lange reveals her condition for returning to ‘American Horror Story’ Season 13

Jessica Lange was willing to return to “American Horror Story” for Season 13 — but only if she got the chance to reprise all four of her previous characters from throughout the anthology series.

Lange revealed the condition she gave series co-creator Ryan Murphy before signing on for another season during her appearance on “Live with Kelly and Mark” Tuesday, ahead of the premiere on FX Thursday.

“Ryan Murphy talked me into coming back,” Lange, 77, said, according to Entertainment Weekly. “First, he talked to me about playing Constance [Langdon], which I think was his favorite character that I did, but I said, ‘I’ll come back if I can [play] all four characters.’”

“Live” co-host Mark Consuelos then asked Lange, “The nun?” — referring to Sister Jude Martin, her character from Season 2, “Asylum.”

“Yes, from our season, yes!” Lange replied. “But not in the habit. She’s in the later part of the season — she’s institutionalized herself — when she’s a patient there.”

Consuelos, 55, appeared in Season 2 as Spivey, a patient at the psychiatric hospital.

Lange, for her part, first portrayed Constance Langdon in Season 1, “Murder House,” before returning as the character in a guest appearance in Season 8, “Apocalypse.”

She also portrayed Fiona Goode, the “Supreme” witch, in Season 3, “Coven,” and Elsa Mars, a German expat and freak show manager, in Season 4, “Freak Show.”

Lange also noted that Season 13 features plenty of familiar faces, saying, “Everybody is a returning character, pretty much.”

As for her own experience returning to the series, Lange said it was “great,” adding, “I like all four of those characters. It was fun to play them, and coming back, it was great to [play] them again.”

The “King Kong” actress also teased that she may be taking on a fifth character this season, saying, “I threw in an extra that’s kind of a mystery character.”

When “Live” co-host Kelly Ripa, 55, asked if the additional character could be a hint at a Season 14 return, Lange simply replied, “No!”

Murphy, 60, previously revealed in August that Lange’s condition for returning to the series was a musical number.

“I just thought the number 13 was infused with so much in the horror genre, and I wanted to do a greatest hits season,” he said at the time.

“I didn’t know what it was, but I knew that I could only do it with Jessica, so we had dinner and I pitched [it to] her and she said, ‘Great. I’m in as long as I have a musical number,’” Murphy added.
