Jessica Simpson’s new EP has arrived!

On Friday, March 21, the “Irresistible” singer dropped Nashville Canyon, Pt. 1, her first EP in 15 years, which is currently in the top 10 on Apple Music.

To mark the release, Simpson, 44, shared a celebratory post on Instagram.

“I sing because I’m happy, I sing because I’m free. His eyes are on the sparrow and I know He watches me. God told me I needed to feel the fear and do it anyway as I’m moving into my truth while embracing the beauty of uncertainty. And so I did….” she began the post, which featured the project’s artwork.

Simpson continued: “#NashvilleCanyon is the result of learning to hear my heart again, free from industry expectations. It’s about surrendering, letting my voice be my main guide, and trusting the journey ahead. Always inviting God into the room where music creates itself, with a voice that communicates on a spiritual level of grace without fear and allowing the music to be my main voice.”

She noted that the project is a “feeling,” adding that she hoped people would “catch the vibes and “wrap their heart and soul around it just like I have within their own journey.”

“This project has kept me awake inside of my dreams,” Simpson concluded. “It doesn’t get better than this moment right here, right now, sharing this creative intuition with y’all.”

Featured on the EP is a slow-burning ballad called “Blame Me,” where Simpson sings about someone allowing an ex to blame them for the downfall of their relationship.

“Go on and blamе me / Go on and blame me / Go tell your mama, your friends / All at my expense / I couldn’t care any less if you shame me / Go on, blame me,” she belts on the chorus.

As Simpson hits the bridge, she sings: “Blame me for the pain, for the shame / For the nights, for the days / For your guilt, for your emptiness / And you’re good, that it’s me / That is losing sleep / While you let me clean up all your mess.”

Simpson’s Nashville Canyon, Pt. 1 EP features five tracks, including previously released singles “Use My Heart Against Me” and “Leave.”

Ahead of her new EP, Simpson released a cover of Nothing but Thieves’ “Particles” in 2020, after sharing six songs when her 2020 audiobook was released.

In February, the “I Wanna Love You Forever” artist told PEOPLE that her daughter Maxwell, 12, inspired her to return to her roots since she wanted to go to Nashville for her 11th birthday,

“She said, ‘You know that song by Hank Williams, ‘I Saw the Light?’ It’s my favorite song and I want to go where the light is. I want to be there on my 11th birthday, it just feels like that’s what I’m supposed to do,” said Simpson.

The “A Public Affair” musician also opened up to PEOPLE about breaking free from the pressure she faced when she launched her career in pop music, as a reality TV star, and as “a show pony.”

“I was told who I was as an artist, who I was as a singer, and what words I should be singing and exactly how,” she said. “Note for note. Riff for riff.”

Simpson also added that she wouldn’t have been able to return to music “if I didn’t come at it from a soulful place.”

Nashville Canyon, Pt. 1 is out now.
