Jim Carrey’s new look defended by celeb plastic surgeon

Celebrity plastic surgeon Dr. Terry Dubrow defended Jim Carrey’s drastic new look after the actor was bombarded with “mean” comments.

The “Botched” star shared that paparazzi keep asking him to weigh in on Carrey’s appearance ever since the comedian attended the César Awards in Paris last month.

“All they want to do is talk about the way poor Jim Carrey looks,” he said during his Monday appearance on Tori Spelling’s “misSpelling” podcast. “It’s like, what do you say when you’re confronted with that stuff? It’s so mean, right?”

While admitting that the comedian does look “different” now, Dubrow said it’s because fans are “used to seeing” him looking “young” for “so many years.”

“I still think he looks great,” the reality star told Spelling.

Dubrow said he doesn’t know if the “Truman Show” star got plastic surgery, but noted that swelling in someone’s face could “take a long time to go down” after a procedure and temporarily change someone’s appearance.

“He’s kind of our national comedic treasure. Can’t we be a little more kind?” Dubrow pleaded.

“Every plastic surgeon in the world is going online and talking about, ‘There’s less skin in his upper eyelids and his brows are higher,’ and they’re, like, dissecting him with a microscope, which is so unfair, I think, and uncool.”

He also said criticism over Carrey’s face counts as “body-shaming” and asked for people to have empathy as the comments can be negatively affecting Carrey behind the scenes.

“So, if you’re human, it bugs you, and I just think it’s really uncool,” Dubrow concluded.

Carrey, 64, raised eyebrows while accepting the lifetime achievement Cesar d’honneur at the 51st Cesar Awards on Feb. 26.

After videos of his red carpet interviews hit social media, many blamed plastic surgery for the actor’s drastic new look, including Dr. Rachel Mason, who exclusively told Page Six that his changed appearance could have been achieved with a “major surgical transformation” that cost upwards of $60,000.

Other users accused him of being an “impersonator” or “clone” because he looked so different from his past public appearances.

However, Carrey shut down claims that his “clone” attended the César Awards.

“Jim Carrey attended the César Awards, where he accepted his Honorary César Award,” the “Mask” actor’s rep, Marleah Leslie, told Page Six on March 2.

Gregory Caulier, the general delegate of the César Awards, also slammed the impersonator allegations, calling Carrey’s rare outing “a historic moment.”

“Jim Carrey’s visit has been planned since this summer. From the outset, he was extremely touched by the Academy’s invitation,” Caulier told Variety.

The reclusive star considered taking a break from acting in 2022 and rarely makes any public appearances. However, he came out of retirement for “Sonic the Hedgehog 3,” which was released in 2024, after blowing through his savings.
