Joan Jett cancels concerts due to scary injury, surgery

Joan Jett is on the road to recovery after undergoing back surgery.

The “Bad Reputation” singer, 67, underwent “orthopedic surgery on a fractured vertebrae” due to a “recent injury,” her team announced in a message on her Instagram Stories Wednesday. As a result, she’s canceling two shows she was scheduled to play next month.

“In close consultation with her doctors, Joan will not be able to perform at her forthcoming September scheduled shows in Costa Mesa, CA on September 5th and Louisville, KY on September 24th,” the message reads.

“While Joan hates to disappoint fans, she will be taking this time to focus on physical therapy and healing,” the statement continues. “She’s looking forward to delivering tremendous concerts for many years to come.”

No further details were provided about her injury.

Jett and her band, the Blackhearts, wrapped up their first UK tour in 16 years last month. On Monday, the rocker posted a video montage of their performances on Instagram, writing, “Thanks for the summer love Europe, can’t wait to come back 🖤.”

As of Monday, she was still promoting her scheduled September shows, adding, “Stateside shows coming up Sept 5 at @oc_fair @pacificamphitheatre and Sept 24 at @bourbonandbeyond in Louisville 💥.”

It may take as long as six weeks for people who undergo surgery for a fractured spine to recover, then an additional few months for their spine to heal, according to the Cleveland Clinic.

Jett talked about her love of touring in April, telling Far Out magazine, “To be part of people’s interior dialogue is pretty special and a unique thing. That’s what I love most, is to be out on stage visibly seeing people enjoying themselves, and I’m looking forward to it very much.”

Jett also explained how touring was different now that she’s older, reflecting, “I know too much now. There’s just a thing that comes when you’re young, and I was definitely naive about a lot of things.”

“You know, you got to have common sense, and you got to be able to take care of yourself,” she added. “I wish I knew then what I know now, you know.”

The rocker rose to fame in the ’70s with her band the Runaways before they disbanded and she released her hit 1980 album, “Bad Reputation.”

Together with her new band, the Blackhearts, they released the 1981 album “I Love Rock ‘n Roll,” with the titular topping the Billboard Hot 100.
