John Elway ‘Devastated and Heartbroken’ Over Death of Longtime Agent Jeff Sperbeck Following Golf Cart Incident

John Elway is mourning his longtime friend and sports agent Jeff Sperbeck.

Sperbeck died Wednesday, April 30, after he reportedly fell from a moving golf cart four days prior. On Wednesday afternoon, Elway released a statement, which ESPN’s Adam Schefter shared to X.

“I am absolutely devastated and heartbroken by the passing of my close friend, business partner and agent Jeff Sperbeck,” Elway’s statement read. “There are no words to truly express the profound sadness I feel with the sudden loss of someone who has meant so much to me.”

“My heart and deepest sympathies go out to Jeff’s wife, Cori; his children Carly, Sam and Jackson; and everyone who knew and loved him. Jeff will be deeply missed for the loyalty, wisdom, friendship and love he brought into my life and the lives of so many others,” Elway concluded.

Sperbeck, 62, died on Wednesday after reportedly falling from a moving golf cart on Saturday, April 26. Elway was also on board the golf cart at the time. Medical personnel responded and transported Sperbeck to a local hospital in critical condition, per a Riverside County Sheriff news release.

The duo was together at The Madison Club in La Quinta, Calif, according to local news station KESQ. The Riverside County Sheriffs have launched an investigation into the incident.

In addition to being Elway’s close friend, Sperbeck served as Elway’s business partner and agent during his competitive football career.

“We are deeply saddened to share the passing of our beloved Jeff Sperbeck,” Sperbeck’s family said in a statement to Pro Football Talk. “He was a wonderful father, husband, brother, son and friend to many and will be profoundly missed by all. We are grieving this unimaginable loss as a family alongside our dearest friends, the Elway’s, and the many other clients Jeff called friends. We are grateful for the overwhelming outpouring of support that we have received and ask for privacy for our family at this difficult time.”
