Josh Allen is taking care of business this offseason!
The Buffalo Bills quarterback and avid golfer tells PEOPLE in an exclusive interview that his spring and summer has been par for the course, so to speak — but one thing so far has stood out. “I’ve golfed a lot,” Allen, 29, tells PEOPLE in a conversation tied to his partnership with Natrol, which includes starring in a new ad for the sleep supplement. “That was pretty cool. I golfed at Augusta after the Masters.”
“I will mention that I did get married and that was the most important part,” he then adds with a smile. “Yeah, it’s been a good offseason.”
Allen and his new wife, Sinners star Hailee Steinfeld, 28, walked down the aisle on Saturday, May 31 in an outdoor ceremony in California in front of family and friends, including his Bills teammates and Curb Your Enthusiasm alum Larry David.
Weeks later, on Tuesday, June 17, the reigning NFL MVP shared photos of his “wifey” in an Instagram post featuring a Polaroid-style collage of moments seemingly from their tropical honeymoon.

Now, with a new ring on his finger, Allen is continuing his chase for Super Bowl hardware.
After coming up short en route to the big game, losing to the Kansas City Chiefs in the AFC Championship last season, the signal-caller is candid about his mindset — and what needs to happen for the team and their beloved Bills Mafia to get to the next level.
“I think I kind of found myself last year having some very real talks with a lot of veteran leadership,” Allen tells PEOPLE. “One being [linebacker] Von Miller, and just saying, once the ball’s in the air, once it leaves my hand, there’s nothing I can do.”
He continues, “So the only thing that I can do is continue to work hard, continue to try to lead and be the best version of myself. Sometimes the ball rolls the other way, and that’s just the nature of the business that we’re in.”
“But again, there’s still a lot of things that we can do, whether it’s working out in the offseason and developing that team chemistry and going into training camp ready to go. So all I’m trying to do is play the best football that I can play and try to help my team and put us in good situations to win football games,” the athlete says.
He’s also focused on getting a good night’s sleep, which is something he’s struggled with throughout his career on the field. “In the last couple of years, I’ve really gotten my diet down and feel like that’s in a good spot, but I still found myself up at 11:30, midnight still up,” Allen says, explaining why he “gravitated” toward Natrol.
“I feel like if I can get my diet down as well as my sleep down, then sky’s the limit in terms of what I can do throughout the day and on the field,” he adds.

“And number one goal is to make the playoffs and give yourselves a chance. And then from then on, it’s you got to play the best that we can play,” Allen says, before bringing things back to golf. The football player spoke to PEOPLE just days after watching J.J. Spaun’s inspirational, come-out-of-nowhere bid to grab his own hardware, the U.S. Open trophy.
“The whole week he battled through some adversity,” he says. “Early on [on Sunday], I don’t know if you saw him hit that shot [on the second hole]? It was going to be three feet from the pin, hits the flagstick and then rolls back another 50 feet, whatever it was. He could have thrown in the towel there.”
Allen then references his own mindset about football, “It’s a good story about perseverance and overcoming obstacles that you can’t control. Again, once that ball’s in the air, there’s nothing you can do, right? Sometimes it goes that way and sometimes it doesn’t. But he continued to find a way and fight and it was pretty cool.”
