Kai Trump Says Her Mother’s Boyfriend Tiger Woods Gave Her Advice Ahead of Her LPGA Tournament Debut

Tiger Woods has some tips for Kai Trump.

The golf icon — who is dating Kai’s mother Vanessa Trump — imparted some of his knowledge ahead of the younger Trump’s debut in an LPGA tournament.

“I mean, he is the best golfer in the entire world, I would say that. And even better person,” Kai, 18, told reporters on Tuesday, Nov. 11 about the 49-year-old athlete. “He told me to go out there and have fun and just go with the flow. Whatever happens, happens.”

Kai, who has committed to playing golf at the University of Miami next year, is set to tee off in the Annika driven by Gainbridge at Pelican tournament, which begins Thursday, Nov. 13 in Belleair, Fla., after she was awarded a sponsor’s invitation to play the event named for golf legend Annika Sorenstam.

Currently a high school senior at The Benjamin School in Palm Beach, Kai, whose father is Donald Trump Jr., regularly competes in junior and amateur tournaments on the American Junior Golf Association (AJGA). In July, she finished tied for third at a Srixon Medalist Tour event.

The junior golfer is ranked No. 461 in the American Junior Golf Association rankings. At her biggest tournament to date, the Junior Invitational at Sage Valley in March, Kai finished last in a field of 24 golfers, shooting 52 over par.

Still, the tournament’s namesake believes Kai’s skills stand out.

“I just don’t know how she does it, honestly,” Sorenstam said. “To be 18 years old and hear all the comments, she must be super tough on the inside. I’m sure we can all relate what it’s like to get criticism here and there, but she gets it a thousand times.”

Dan Doyle Jr., owner of Pelican Golf Club, offered Kai the exemption, according to Reuters. Doyle is CEO of Tampa-based DEX Imaging, and has donated to Republican campaign committees. 

“The idea of the exemption, when you go into the history of exemptions, is to bring attention to an event,” Doyle said about his decision to invite Trump. “You got see [Kai Trump] live. She’s lovely to speak to and she brought a lot of viewers through Instagram and things like that that normally don’t watch women’s golf.”
